I'm trying to add a internal website for SolarWinds using the webpage widget and the placeholder is showing blank. I have tired by IP and DNS and still get the same result. Any ideas?

Hi Jon,

If you are inserting a URL, you should be able to use the webpage widget.  When you say the placeholder is showing up blank, do you mean in preview or on the display? Or both?

Have you reviewed the web page widget help document here?:  https://help.risevision.com/user/content/webpage-widget

Hi Ray,

That's what I am using I can do any external page fine but when trying to do any internal site it doesn't display anything.

Jon,

It sounds like an issue with being able to reference an internal website and authentication and the domain, or something along those lines.  I would explore it from that angle.

For instance, can you open Chrome browser on that same machine, without being logged into Google so there are no credentials being used, and access the same URL?

If this was the case wouldn't it kick back a "This webpage is not available"? I can hit the internal pages fine. The fact that its not even displaying the widget box when in preview makes me think other wise.

Jon, I'm not quite sure why it isn't showing you some specific message.  When you say you can hit the internal pages fine, do you mean as I described above, with no authentication, on the same machine?

Can you try using the Google dev console to see what errors or messages are there to help determine what is going on?

Alex, yes that is correct. This is what I found from dev console.

Refused to display 'http://netmon/Orion/' in a frame because it set 'X-Frame-Options' to 'SAMEORIGIN'.

Jon,

With this Same Origin error, I believe you will need to make a change to your internal website to allow embedding. You may want to consult your web designer or admin.

You do, but changing X Frame on the internal site would cause security issues. I found a nice extension from the chrome web store that resolved the issue. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ignore-x-frame-headers/gleekbfjekiniecknbkamfmkohkpodhe?ut...

Jon,

Thank you for digging into this - we had the same problem.  Understanding that it was related to the X-Frame headers helped us figure out a work around.   We have Solarwinds too and used your information to find this article: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/76106  Using the steps there, we were able to correct the problem.

Thanks again!
