Happy Monday, everyone! In case you missed it last week, we worked on some updates we're excited to tell you about.

The new Rise Cache

We're really excited about this one! Our Content team released the new Rise Cache this week. As a bit of background, Rise Cache keeps all of your media in a folder on your Presentations so your Player runs smoothly without having to constantly download them. This is really exciting for us because of what it means for all of you! The new cache makes your Presentations are even more reliable, and we are constantly measuring ourselves on the reliability of our products to you. And if you’re using the Spreadsheet Widget, this we have some extra good news for you — our Content team is working on an update so it uses the new Rise Cache for offline playback, as well.

New content for your viewing pleasure

Need some inspiration for your content? The Creative Team has been working on content for a number of clients — you can see all of our latest work here. If you’re interested in upping your content game send us a note at creative@risevision.com and we can help with some custom content for your digital signage.

More improvements coming soon
  • Our Apps team made an announcement last week that we are going to remove the Last Connection field in order to maintain a reliable service.

  • We’ve identified and are working on a problem affecting Image thumbnails in Storage. Right now, they’re not updating in a timely manner when a file is overwritten (https://github.com/Rise-Vision/rise-vision-apps/issues/262). We’ll update you as soon as we complete this fix.

  • We’re also continuing improvements with our Viewer, which will reduce the overhead that the application consumes, increase automated tests coverage, with the goal of achieving 99% Player reliability.

  • The Store team is resolving a small issue relating to how we imported a particular type of subscription from our legacy billing system.

If you have any questions or feedback, please comment below. We’d love to know what you think about the recent updates our teams have been working on!

Hi,

So does this mean player will play contents offline even if internet is disconnected/not working?

Prakash,

The Rise Cache was always part of the platform, we have just made some improvements to make it more reliable, and more informative when you it is downloading or playing media. We still strongly recommend to have a reliable internet connection when using the platform.

Two thoughts from this week...

1. I'm sad to see the Latest Connection field go. It's helpful from an administrative / IT perspective for helping diagnose problems. (How long has the box been down? What time of day did this happen? etc) I'll direct my comments to that thread as well.

2. I am excited about the caching and other improvements. I too am interested in an offline player. Ideally, a player that will start up and run with no network connection to start off.

Great progress :)

Wendi,

Try using some remote desktop connection software as an alternative for now. You can try screenconnect.com. It has features like triggering email when client goes down, screenshot, sending remote cmd commands and grouping of clients. We just completed their 14 day trial and it looks good. Available for windows and linux both.

regards
Prakash.

Starting this week, I have a video (webm) that is stuck on "File is downloading." It works when previewed but not in the actual presentation. Nothing has been changed in the presentation for months. Could this update and the error be related? Thank you!

Brian,

I was able to determine that you are not on the newest version that has this fix, so we have 2 options here:

1. The fix will hopefully be rolled out ot all users within the next week as long as there are no issues, so when your Display does its reboot at 12:30 pm, within the next week it will download that newest version and correct this issue.

2. You can force it to upgrade right now, by doing the following:
- Open a Windows Command window (cmd)
- Go to C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\rvplayer\2016.10.19.18.03\Installer
- Run this command: installer --rollout-pct=100

Once you do that, follow the commands to install the newest version of Player that has this updated cache which fixes the issue, and everything should start playing as expected!
I hate to be a pain, but that did not work. Though I forced the update and it looked like it updated, maybe I did not do something right. I will just wait a couple days to see if that corrects before I look at changing things too much. Thank you again...
I take that back - it just took a long while to load but it is all working now. Thank you!

I'm so glad to hear that Brian, thank you!

Yeah...that video folder was about 4 GB's of videos...so that took a while for me as well :)
It was actually the single video that I was having trouble with. The 4GB folder was not a problem. Go figure... Thank you again.
