What we did last week

  • Web pages and RSS content now renders in the Editor, so that you can see what they will look without having to preview the Presentation.

  • We deployed Rise Cache reliability improvements and Chrome 50 to legacy Rise Vision Players.

  • Improvements to our User documentation continue.

  • It’s now a little simpler to quit the new Electron Player, just press “CTRL”+”SHIFT”+”Q” and everything shuts down, and if you want to get access to the browser's developer tools just press “CTRL”+”SHIFT”+”.”(period key).

  • Working towards ZERO open defects across our 60 active projects on GitHub. We went from 19 open last week to 16 this week. Getting there!

  • Our design for real-time communication with our Rise Players is complete and as of now we are going to proceed with using Firebase as our messaging service. This may change if we find problems during implementation. This project will begin towards the end of this month.

  • Working on the new Rise Player User Interface, quick preview of what is coming is here and here.

  • We are trying out Socket.io in interactive content. We’re playing around with the ability to use your phone as a remote, and control what is playing on the screen. You can see our test from last week here and here. In the test you can type in your name and it will display on the other webpage. The idea behind this is that someone could fill out a form on their phone and the Display will show a thank you message.

  • We are testing SimpleWeather.js to see if we can create presentations that show content based on the weather.

  • We are working on interactive and static donor wall Presentations for the Foundation for Community Care. We’ll share with everyone when we are done!

  • As part of the donor wall project we are trying out List.js for search and filtering and are hoping to use it in more interactive content. Check out this Beta interactive directory Presentation to see it in use.

  • If you’re curious what sort of content we build, you can check out past projects and follow our work here.

  • Users requested we include a yearly subscription for our DDE Service, and we were happy to oblige. Check out the DDE product here.

  • We’re experimenting with React for rendering content from a Google Spreadsheet

  • Our work continued on an improved version of the Google Spreadsheet Widget.

  • Now that our Player runs on Electron instead of Chrome, we have republished the 32 Bit Linux Installer! You can get it here.

What we have planned this week

  • Keep killing bugs to achieve ZERO Defects.

  • Working to ship the new Rise Player User interface.

  • Deploy our documentation improvements.

  • Implementing a project we call “Miranda”. It’s all about making it really simple to get started with Rise Vision and providing existing Users with a better, streamlined workflow. This project is going to be running until about mid June...

  • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS was released a short time ago, so we’re starting to test it with the Rise Vision Player. If you’ve been trying it out, be sure to let us know what you think of the Rise Player running on it!

  • Working to release an early preview of the new Google Spreadsheet Widget

Very cool stuff going on. :) You've given me lots of technologies to look into and these developments are exciting! I tested out that socket.io link yesterday and went to show someone today but I'm getting this on both pages... maybe it's being worked on? Might want to leave it up though so others can see ;)

Wendi, I'm seeing the same thing. Also, nothing on their Twitter to inform of an issue: https://twitter.com/SocketIO?lang=en

Robb and Wendi, It's working no problem for me, I'm not sure what the issue might be for you guys. Maybe try clearing cache or using an incognito window.

See Gif here.

Hi Shea.. I did try clearing cache earlier as well as using a separate browser. Tested in Chrome and Firefox with same result. Looks like it's back up now.. :)

Hey i use SimpleWeatherJS and have been using it for sometime now, but i will warn you that yahoo has been changing there weather api. Its not as stable as one may think so be aware of that. There are times when yahoo makes a change that it will cause simpleweatherjs to stop working. Robb the widget i had last year was based off of them but i couldnt put it up due to off and on issues with yahoo changing there api. Its been more stable recently but i wanted to let you know what i have seen with simpleweatherjs.

Hi William,

Thanks for the warning! I noticed it was pretty unreliable as well when I first tried it out a few months ago. But like you said it has been stable recently, I had it running 24 hours a day for 7 days last week without a single error. I also like how you can choose you're own error message so you can just show a picture or a text announcement rather than "The weather couldn't be retrieved." so that when it's not working no one notices.

Yea i like it when it works. The big changes i made with ours was with the icons. We went with pictured icons. We aslo have a choice of the icon set on our widget so we are not stuck with one icon set. Gives us the ablity make the widget look different on different presentations.
