What we did last week:

  • Continuing to work on our new homepage and other simplifications on how to get started. Deployments will begin this week.

  • Improvements to the Calendar Widget have started with the UX design, and next up is the HTML widget.

  • Apps team has started our next book Intercom On Jobs To Be Done by Intercom. We have read all of their books to date and we can’t recommend them enough.

  • Improvements to the Rise Player proxy management are deployed and we have further simplifications in the works along with a couple of bug fixes that are starting to be deployed now.

  • We have identified a few improvements that will increase our test coverage for Rise Player, and with it, our reliability, by expanding both our unit and end to end tests and further automating our continuous deployment process. This will be completed and deployed over the next few weeks.

  • The war on open defects did not go well this week. We started with 15 open and we now have 17 across our 60 active projects on GitHub.

  • Work resumed on a new Spreadsheet Widget and we’ll be releasing an early preview version this week.

  • Work to achieve a 99% reliable Video Widget continued with a new version of the Video Widget being released to the Store, and we’ve started the design phase for Rise Cache to improve its reliability serving videos to the Widget.

  • We’ve started working on applying Jobs To Be Done in our design process for custom content.

  • Our Creative Team is reading the book Sprint. A few other members from Rise Vision read it a couple weeks ago and we’ve heard great things.

  • We just released three DonorWall packages herehere and here. If you have any questions on them or are curious as to how it all works shoot us an email at creative@risevision.com.

Hey Robb,
Keep me informed on the video widget. If viable I could extend support to it across all my apps.

Thanks

Will,

Have you tried the newest version available in the Store on your Player? Is it working as expected?

I haven't. The reason is that i see that you all might be doing some changes with cache. If there is a change, usually this change would need to be done on my apps. It would kinda be bad to support the new widget currently, then you all change cache on me. I want to be sure the changes are done first and are solid before i work on the support. Thats why i would like to be informed of the changes that might be coming to cache and the widget. :)

Robb,

Can I easily update an existing Presentation to the newest Video Widget? Or is that automatic?

I've got a hardware set-up and presentation that torture tests player hardware (for heat and cpu throttling) and Rise software to the point of what really looks like cache misses and lockups. I'll be happy to test any new iterations and report back, or here's my simple method:

The simple RPT Digital video torture presentation:
http://preview.risevision.com/?type=presentation&id=70366769-b89c-4ba9-bb81-77988442ca09

It's the same video series stacked in three scaled placeholders usually running for at least a few minutes, plus I usually add a couple of Simple Rise demo presentations to the schedule for short periods to reset the video presentation (presuming the videos remain in cache for a minute or two).

When it starts all the stacked videos are relatively synchronized, over time they fall out of sync to varying degrees based on hardware speed and eventually when CPU throttling and heat kicks in on some players some or all of of the Video Placeholders begin to show as black until the change to the two static images resets the video. When the video Presentation restarts it usually has all 3 videos running again, unless the hardware is really over stressed then in extremes all three go black.

The NUC i3 we have in our demo area runs it perfectly until ambient around the player is >27C, the Atom Kangaroo begins to fail video windows after varying amounts of time once player ambient is >18C and over time CPU throttling kicks in.

Robb, somebody asked me if I could share that Torture Test presentation. Give me a hint how, or better yet open a new Torture Test thread and share it as public for me and I'll do a post on the way I use it and tools (all free) that I use.

Thanks,

Maybe this will work for public use, if not let me know proper way to make a presentation public:

This is my Video Torture Test:
