In case you missed it for the week ending Jul 22nd

What we did last week:

  • Player Reliability has increased by 1% from 96% last week to 97% this week. Similar to last week, the majority of issues appear to revolve around external web pages that have memory leaks, very large image files, multiple videos, etc, on an underpowered media player, and in some cases the use of deprecated content. We are continuing to make Widget reliability changes as we uncover possible failure points and working directly with Users who have content that is requiring more performance than what their current media players can provide, all in an effort to achieve our goal of 99% reliability.

  • The Apps team is working on improvements in the Editor to simplify the flow for adding images and videos to Presentations. We are also looking at the data to find all of the pain points in the Editor and improve them.

  • Our Creative Team has been hard at work on the new Rise Vision website and we’re hoping to release it in the coming weeks.

  • We just updated our Dribbble account with work from a number of clients. Take a look here.

  • With regards to defects, we opened a few and closed a few leaving this week where we left off last week, 4 open defects across our 60 active projects on GitHub. Zero open is the goal.

  • Delivery team is implementing our new messaging service with Displays and as part of this new service we will be grabbing screenshots of Display content that can be reviewed on the Display Settings page.

  • The Content team is wrapping up the new Google Spreadsheet Widget currently available in early preview. As part of the work we’ll be adding experimental support for infinite scrolling! We’ll post an update in the Community once it is released.

Hi Robb,

You note that Delivery Team will be grabbing screenshots of Display Content.

This implies that Rise Vision has access in real time to Users display content.

If that's correct, is there a Rise Vision confidentiality policy on protecting data like that?

I'm thinking of a hypothetical example where a large complex company might want to use Rise Vision to share real time internal data like production schedules or product development information between locations and would have a right to expect confidentiality.

Thanks

Hey Robb

Is the early release Google Sheet Widget going through development today (2016 07 25)? I am having an issue where the preview and the display (both of them) will only pull data from a single column.

Suggestion on where to look for more details?

Thanks!

I am going to test that out. But would an issue with the 60 min refresh cause my preview and display to show content from only one Column? I have each column programmed to call a separate column in the Google Sheet, but it is repeating a single column for each of my four Widgets.

Thoughts? And Thanks!

Thanks Alan. I was able to enter the API Key - and it helped but didnt solve the problem completely. Here is what I am seeing in qualitative terms: If the refresh rate is set to 1 min for ALL widgets (and I have 4 on one presentation), the sheets data looks to be ok. However, when I set one widget to 10 min (to save on some of the 40k daily count), the columns dont pull their correct data anymore until 10 min has passed. In our case, someone is not changing data all day every 10 min. But even once or twice a day - it will cause an issue.
Thanks for help with this.

RPT, you bring up a good point.   We have been asked for this feature for quite some time now by many users but there are some, for the reasons that you mention, that might now want this. We will make it opt in just to be clear. Thanks!

Byron,
Thanks.

My concern is areas where confidentiality is critical, ie: prep displays for previewing new product launches or internal news that someone wants to share on signs within a closed secure internal space but always knowing they can ensure confidentiality.

On the other hand, it would be absolutely brilliant to have the ability to to take a screenshot of a display remotely either at will or on a schedule. I'd vote for that capability and hope you might extend it to the user level as well as your development.

Rise just gets better and better, keep up the good work.

RPT, can you clarify what you mean by the "user level"? Thanks

Byron,
I read Robb's post that Rise would be able to grab these screenshots for your development process
By user level I meant those of us who use Rise Vision.
Example, if we could somehow grab a screenshot of any of our company's displays it could be a good tool. Like if I ask someone local to the display to snap a picture and email it to me (actually been done) so we could see a problem (was hardware not Rise software).

RPT, got it. Current plan is if you opt in to getting screen shots and you open your display settings it will go and grab the screen shot as of right now if the display is online. Okay?

Very excited to see the screenshot feature! Will there be an API call for this also? We'd like to write it into our Admin Tool if possible. Thanks for all the work you do :)

Wendi,

I don't have a clear answer for you on that, but when I do, we'll be sure to announce it.

Thanks!
