What we did last week:

  • Player reliability is holding at 97% and we are currently working to get it to at least 99%.

  • As part of our Player reliability improvements we have just started a rewrite of the application that renders content on the Display. The goal is to greatly reduce the overhead that it consumes and have full test coverage for it to make sure that future releases do not inadvertently introduce problems.

  • Apps team is continuing to ship Editor improvements to make it easier for first time Users.

  • Improvements to our in-app messaging for Users is also underway to make sure that they are meaningful and helpful, not annoying.

  • Delivery team is continuing with the new and improved Player messaging system that will include the ability to get Display Screenshots to support the above user interface.

  • Open defects are holding at 7 across our 60 active projects on GitHub. Zero open defects is the goal.

  • The Content Team shipped an update to the Spreadsheet Widget, and made good progress on the new Rise Cache.  

  • The Creative team has been working on custom client content using the new google spreadsheet web component as well as designs for donor recognition walls and a visual clock for world markets.


Important reminder: as of September 1st, support for legacy versions of Rise Player will be discontinued. This announcement goes over how to determine the version you are on, and how to upgrade.

Does this mean that the current displays will stop working or just no longer update?

Will previous installs still work fine?

We've not had success with dual screens on the new player version by modifying the INI file.

Previous versions of Rise Player will no longer update. They will continue to run, but we cannot guarantee future reliability. If you are running Version 2 player on Windows, it's also likely that you will see a Chrome is Out of Date error message.

Are you running Windows media players? Is there anything special about your resolutions on these devices? I would be interested in knowing more about the difficulties you're having with dual displays.

We typically run Windows 10 and HDMI+DVI Output for Dual Displays with Pentium processors on Intel Integrated Graphics with 1080p Resolutions.

I myself have not personally tried to achieve the dual display, but was told by a colleague on his attempt it would not work. It is possible he was attempting this on the wrong version of the player. Or mistyped something...

But I noticed also, when I went into the RV folder and edited the INI file that has the display ID, it didn't seem to update it when the program was launched on his computer. Not sure if he had both players on the machine at the same time (chrome & native)... But it seemed like the chrome player he was using for that experiment.

Do you have to edit the file with administrative privileges?

I've made this mistake as well, you want to make sure that all elements of the Player are not running, specifically Electron and Java. Pressing Ctrl + Shift + Q will kill everything when the player is running, and then you can update that file, no admin privileges required :)
