What we did last week:

  • Player reliability is up from 96% to 97% and we have several initiatives underway to hit our target of at least 99%. These include rewriting our Viewer application that renders our Presentations to take it out of Google Web Toolkit and move it to pure Javascript with complete automated test coverage. In the process of pursuing every Player failure we have found 3 defects (more on this later) that we will address as part of that rewrite. In addition we have content improvements underway and we are rewriting our Rise Cache (the application that stores all images and videos on Rise Player), once again taking it out of Java and moving it to nodeJS with full test coverage as well.

  • Apps team is continuing to ship Editor improvements and we should be done with all of the changes that were queued from our first design sprint within the next two weeks.

  • Delivery team is spending the next month implementing our new and improved Player messaging system that will include the ability to get Display Screenshots.

  • Open defects are up from 6 last week to 7 across our 60 active projects on GitHub. As mentioned above we have found Viewer issues as part of our Player Reliability research and we have a project queued to begin to address these within the next few weeks. Zero open defects is the goal.

  • Content team got a late start on Rise Cache to address issues with RSS and Text Widget. With those corrections shipped, we are now onto building the new version of Rise Cache. Thank you to everyone for the great feedback. This is what enables us to continuously improve our products!

  • There are a number of new blog posts this week, Klipfolio wrote a guest post on how to design dashboards for digital signage with some great examples for schools and not-for-profits. We wrote a post covering a few important questions you should ask before starting a digital signage project. It’s been a busy week for the Apps team, they’ve released a number of new features to the editor which you can read about here. And last but not least we wrote a guest post for the Klipfolio blog on how digital signage is improving corporate communication.

  • The Creative team has added lots of new content to our Dribbble page which you can see here.

Important Reminder: As of September 1st, support for legacy versions of Rise Player will be discontinued. This announcement goes over how to determine the version you are on, and how to upgrade.
