Images Not Displayed in Chrome Packaged App

Hi guys, I have been testing the platform for possible use in our K-12 school district and have uncovered that images in my presentations are not showing on the Chrome-packaged app players. I have tested it on Windows 7, Ubuntu 14.04 and ChromeOS. However, they DO DISPLAY on the same machinesin the native player for both Linux and Windows.

The images are being served from an internal web server (which is also publicly accessible through the firewall from outside). The images are directly accessible in the browser on the same machines from which I'm testing.

Sample Presentation 2: http://bit.ly/1GJUQgq

What I've tried so far:
  • Reboot players and machines
  • Cleared Chrome browser history to the beginning of time
  • Making sure third-party cookies were accepted
  • Uninstall/Reinstall both Chrome and Rise Player
  • Create a new presentation with same content
I have noticed that in Preview mode on the presentations, sometime the images would display and sometimes not. All that I have found to remedy it there is to edit the image settings to remove the URL, save, input the URL again, save again and it works. I don't know if this is related or a separate issue?

Any input on what could be occurring here would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Todd,

I tested your presentation and had the same results with the images not showing, whereas they do show in Preview.  From player, I can see a 403 Forbidden message from your server in the dev console:

"You don't have permission to access [path and name of file] on this server"

Can you have the admins of that site look into this?

Thanks for the reply, Alex. I am the admin for the website as well. The images load through a browser just fine with a direct link on those same machines. So that's very strange that a 403 error would occur unless the Chrome app player uses a differentechani to fetch the images.

Are there any particular issues that you know of where the Chrome app is accessing the images differently (such as through another site/server/domain)?

Alex, I found the issue. We had a Wordpress plugin that was set to prevent hotlinking directly to images. I wonder why it works in the native player? Oh well, it is working now. Thanks for your responses!
