Has anyone incorporated ibeacons technology into a display yet?

I was talking with some buddies at an IT company about combing our skillsets. They mentioned "ibeacons" as the technology that pings phones, etc. and sends you coupons, etc. when you walk by an area that has active ibeacons.

Has anyone utilized this technology with the RV system?  I think it would be really cool if a display could pop up with a message like "Hi Rob, glad you're here today!" or something like that.  Primarily, I think it would be great to be able to know how many distinct visitors were looking at a display in a given timeframe.  But, being able to ping them a coupon, etc. would be kinda cool as well.

Lemme know if anyone is doing something with ibeacons, and if you have recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

The problem with ibeacons at the moment is that you need to install an app. A much easier solution might be to implement a social wifi hotspot. People will log in via their social networks (Facebook, Twitter, etc...) and then you can check in real-time how many people are connected, who they are, basic demographics and then take actions (send them a coupon for example).
There's also a company called Taggalo who provides a solution with sensors and a webcam and give you audience analytics (how many people are watching, for how long, etc...)

We could install the app you refer to on systems that we wish to implement this on.  Do you have any experience or recommendations about one vs. the other?

Social wifi hotspot? I did a quick google and came up with several services that claim to do this for you - any experience/recommendations?

Taggalo sounds pretty powerful, but sort of "Big Brother" if there's a camera involved.  Thoughts?

Thanks for all the input - this is most appreciated!

Hi Jeff,

There are several social wifi platforms out there. You can check Purple wifi and Airtight to start with. In order to setup the system, you just need to install their firmware on a compatible access point and then everything is managed from a web platform.
Concerning taggalo, yes, there's a webcam involved so you need to comply with the law (same as CCTV for example). The data they captured anyway is always on aggregated terms.
I hope my answer helped you.
