HTML5 Youtube Video in Widget

  • Not a Problem
I have been using the new editor lately to become accustomed to it and discovered something unusual. I have one presentation created in the classic editor which has a placeholder with a lone video widget. This video widget points to a Youtube video and plays flawlessly every morning. My main presentation was also created in the classic editor but has a placeholder with several different widgets. I have used this placeholder to successfully stream Youtube videos as recently as two weeks ago. Today I am unable to stream a video I just uploaded.
I have opened the video-only presentation and added the new video and it previews just fine.  I copy the widget from design view and HTML into the main presentation and it will not preview. It skips without warning to the next non-video widget.
The results are the same no matter which editor I use, classic or new.
Any ideas?

Media Manager,

Can you give me a link to preview the presentation in question? I'd like to see exactly what you have going on.

For what its worth, I am now getting an error in the presentation on the display "The format of that video is not supported" for about 2 seconds before it goes to the next widget/content item.

Sorry about the long delay in response.  The presentation in question is here.  Thank you.

Hey Adam,

It looks like you're trying to use the Video Widget to display a youtube URL, which is not possible. If you want to display a Youtube video, you'll need to use the Youtube Widget by Scott's Digital Signage.

I'm afraid I don't follow.

Media Manager,

In this presentation, you have two videos
  • Video Widget - Widget
  • Video Item - Bulletin
The Video Widget does not support playing Youtube content. The Video Item may player youtube content, but it is no longer supported. It looks like the first time through, the Video Item is catching the youtube video and playing it.

Another issue is that I'm seeing that the video is actually blocked in my country by copyright. Can you confirm that the video here is playing for you in a web browser with no out of country proxy setup? It's possible that on the initial play, the request from Rise Player comes from another location, where the video is not blocked, and further requests come from your cache.

Yes, that particular video is blocked in some countries. Also, the display is bypassing any proxies or filters. This is might be the problem.  I have swapped out that video with one that isn't blocked.  It plays  with the store widget in preview, but not the old-style builtin video item. With the latter, it just skips.  I'm going to see if I can display this video, which has never been displayed before and report back.

On initial test, that didn't work, so maybe I am looking at cache for some of the older videos.  Can you see it on your end?

If this doesn't work, is putting videos in Rise Vision storage an acceptable and supported method?

Media Manager,

Yes, I would advise you to host the video on Rise Storage and display it using the Video Widget. This is the most up to date and current way to show non-youtube videos.

If you prefer to host your videos on youtube, the best method is to use the Youtube Widget that I linked above.

Thank you. I suppose since we just have the one display, it would make more sense to go with Scott's widget.
