Hi,

I'm just starting to migrate our video links over to the new widget but I'm having a couple of issues with youtube videos. Would you mind checking a link for me, when I enter it in the URL field it's saying that it's not a valid file format? I don't want to post the link here in the open forum, it's the test presentation in my main account.

Helen,

Can you let me know the name of your Company and I can take a look?

To be honest, when it comes to YouTube, I would trust Scott's Digital Signage YouTube widget over the embed code. I, as well as several other users have run into issues with the embed code, however I've worked with that YouTube widget and it is pretty reliable.

I hope that helps!

Helen,

Thanks for the Company name. If you want to use aVideo via the URL or embed code from YouTube, I would recommend using the HTML Widget, not the HTML Video Widget, as it will give you that error message. It gives that error message because it needs a direct link to the HTML5 video FILE, for example the actual webm or ogv video.

To be perfectly honest, I think your best bet here really is the YouTube Widget. I've tested it with videos and Playlists and it worked great, just drop in the video or Playlist URL and you're off to the races.

You can manipulate the embed code or even use the Video Item itself, but you may run into performance and reliability issues.

Hi Rob,

Oh ok, I see. I'll have a think about that and cost it in for future clients, thanks.

Do you think you could update this in your training documentation to make this clear?

Hi Helen,

Since the youtube widget is by a third party developer, we will not be adding training documentation for it. However, the help documentation for the HTML5 Video Widget outlines what file formats are supported.
