Hi everyone,

i'm having a problem. Sometimes when there is some problem with pc (power interruption for example) when it reboot sometimes it will show a blank (totally white) screen instead of presentation. If i restart the player it will show the presentation again but some images will not be showed (white screen, again) like images in cache is corrupted. To solve this problem i have to delete cache folder and restart player again. Is there any procedure to avoid this problem or to automatically clear cache every X hours or days?

Thanks

Hi there,

I'm curious, does this only happen on a specific Display? Or does it happen to all of your Displays? is the Internet available when the Display restarts after the power disruption?

if you save the Presentation after the power disruption, does this make it download all corrupted assets of the Presentation again so they start showing?

I'm just trying to understand 100% so we can determine the best correction.

Thanks!

Hi there,

One thing I wanted to suggest, would it be possible to try with these images being stored in Rise Vision Storage to see if this issue still occurs? I think it should alleviate the issue as images in Rise Storage will only download if they have changed.

Let us know how you make out!

Hi Robb,

1) For now it happened to 1 display (3 times) but when it happened i uninstalled and reinstalled rise player. Anyways it's not a problem that happen often (fortunally) so it's not so easy to test.
2) I don't know if internet is available immediately after power disruption or the modem takes more time to bootup compared to rise pc. I think the second anyways
3) I didn't try to save the presentation and pubblish it after power disruption, i will try if it happens again

Anyways when i reboot the player it will start again but some images are missing, as i write in first post.

Thanks

MontiDauni,

Any chance you could try to see if using Rise Storage fixes the issue of the images missing upon restart?

I already finished my trial rise storage period. Anyways it's not a problem i can test, because it happens only sometimes when power disrupt... I will update if it happens again.

No problem, let us know if you continue to have trouble!

One thing you may want to try if it happens again, would be to create a Sub Company and start a Storage trial for them. It may be a bit cumbersome to copy the links to the files from their Storage to use in your Presentation, but hopefully we can determine if that solves the issue.

Thanks!

Robb,

One of your comments "as images in Rise Storage will only download if they have changed." brings this question:

An image or video is hosted outside of Rise Storage will be downloaded to the cache on every Rise Player re-start even if they are already stored in cache?

If they're hosted in Rise Storage then the cached version on the Player will be immediately available to player unless there is a newer version in Rise Storage than what's in cache.

Thanks

RPTDigital Signage,

Rise Cache implements Conditional Get Request so for it to only download a file when it has changed, the server has also to support Conditional Get. That is way I recommended using Rise Storage to see if this solved the problem, because it supports this functionality through etag.

If the server does not support Conditional Get Requests, Rise Cache will download the file every time, so what might be happening is the Display gets shut down while the file is downloading, hence the corrupted file.

Does that answer your question?

Thanks!
