How do I display content stored in a MySQL database into Risevision?

I run a website for a school that has a PHP/MySQL calendar. How can I take the events and dynamically display them on a Risevision display? For example, I would like to have a "Happening Now" textbox that compares the current time with events in the database and fishes out an event scheduled to happen right now.

Gian-Luca,

Why not use the web page widget to display the website that contains the calendar?

Hmm, why was it so easy? I really feel like a genius right now. And I have been hitting my head against this for a while...

What would be the way to refresh the list of events as time passes? Do I need to loop two of the same instances of the page, so it reloads it every so often?

Gian-Luca,

Glad to help. Sometimes it just take an outside viewpoint to point out the obvious :)

The Web Page Widget has it's own refresh settings of 1, 5, 30, and 60 minutes. Check out this screenshot.

The web page widget is absolutely the simplest way about it. If you were able to export your data to a google spreadsheet you could also use the spreadsheet widget. I know you can easily import xml to a spreadsheet, which you should be able to generate from a SQL database.

Yes, I thought about that too (exporting to a spreadsheet and publishing the XML output). I was having problems with the event date, because I thought I'd use an RSS feed widget and I could only find a standard Published Date field in RV which wasn't exactly what the date represented. But I am all set now, with the web page widget. Thank you!
