How could I display R25 scheduling information?

Our college uses the R25 room scheduling system. Here is the way I can access it:
https://r25.austincc.edu/r25_wv/wv_servlet/wrd/run/wv_event.DayList?

What widget would be best to display this information in a scrolling manner, such as how the Google Calendar parses and displays the calendar information by day and time.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,

I'm not sure - when I click this link it tells me the page doesn't exist.  Have you tried the RSS widget?

Yes. The RSS widget didn't work for me. When I entered that address, it told me that it was an invalid RSS address. I didn't think it was a RSS feed address anyway, so I just tried it with the RSS widget just in case ...

Odd about the page link though. I can click on the link in my initial post above, and it still pulls up for me ...

So instead, I'll include a screenshot. I don't know it that will help though.

Thanks,
Robert

http://validator.w3.org/feed/ is helpful to validate RSS feeds.

I'm not sure if it's possible for this sample but have you looked into RSS creation software to turn this into an RSS feed?

With the URL, when I try to access the original URL http://r25.austincc.edu/ I am getting a DNS lookup failed, I think that link may not be accessible outside the corporate network (such as a firewall preventing an outside web browser from accessing the network)

I never thought this was an RSS feed anyway. I tried the RSS widget just to see ...

Are you saying it's possible to convert this webpage into an RSS feed? Wouldn't you need access to the "raw" R25 data to do this? This webpage is all I have to use to parse out information.

You may be right about the firewall. I don't really know how (or if) it's setup.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi,

I've just realized what you mean by R25 scheduling system which is offered by https://corp.collegenet.com/products/scheduling/scheduling.html
It looks like it is possible to have an RSS (via validated link) with an R25 scheduling system, please see at https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/rss-reverse-order

Based on that link, ideally the link to use should end with the .rss extension.
I don't have R25 documentation with me, I would suggest getting in touch with them/the documentation they have on offer to see if that link you presented could be converted to RSS - https://corp.collegenet.com/company/contact-us.html

Hannah,

Thanks for the reply. We're a pretty large community college with several branches, so I actually don't know who administers the R25 system here. My boss wanted me to see what I could pull from that link above, which is not RSS, as the example the poster gave.

I'll do some asking around to see who where administers R25 and see if they can prepare a RSS link version for us.

The link https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/rss-reverse-order didn't offer any usable information however. The response to this question was just I don't know how.  We'd have the same issue too ...

Thanks
Robert

Hi Robert,
Sorry I was vague with the link reference - it's to show that there is also another user that was able to generate an RSS feed and on the same R25 system.

Keep us updated with how you can generate the RSS feed (I'm not sure if it's going to be accessible outside the network though and how we can check from outside) but so long as you can validate the RSS link using something like http://validator.w3.org/feed/

Thanks!

We use 25Live as well at our Community College, and we have been able to incorporate it into RiseVision, but not perfectly with the RSS gadget. We coordinate with our scheduling team to generate the permanent RSS feed links. The RSS feed generated by 25Live needs a more custom RSS gadget, similiar to other digital signage cloud solutions that provide RSS parsing geared towards 25Live or fully dynamic tag customization. We would need individual controls of what items/tags appear that are being pulled from the RSS feed.

What may be useful as a gadget is a dynamic XML parser with date range sorting.

Hi Maneesh,
We have a new RSS Widget that is an update to the RSS Gadget. Can you test the link out in this and let us know how you go?
Thanks!

I tried the widget, but in general it produces the same results for the RSS 25Live feed. After looking at it further, it is not that the Risevision gadget or widget is improperly parsing the feed or that the feed is not valid, it is because 25live adds additional data within the description tag that needs to be appropriately parsed for digital signage displays. Is there a way to parse or identify items within the description tags?

Looking at this some more, the key information that we don't want to show up is the Submitter name, Submitter Phone, and Submitter Email when the description is not truncated (full story) on digital signage screens, the remainder can appear as formatted.

Hi Maneesh,
It looks like the RSS feed will need to be edited to take away those options. I am not too familiar with the R25 platform - you may have more success in editing this out within their own platform. I've seen their contact info is at https://corp.collegenet.com/products/...

I haven't tried a custom layout URL but that is what may be needed

You can look into the RSS widget at https://github.com/Rise-Vision/widget... (scroll down to Usage > Custom layout)
