Hi Everybody,

I've spent this past week learning how Rise Vision's widget system works because I would like to start building some widgets of my own. It was tough at first because a lot of the technology being used was new to me, but after spending some time poking around the GitHub repo and asking some questions here, I feel like I am starting to understand what's going on. I still have a lot to learn, but I wanted to share some of what I have figured out so far in hopes of helping anyone that is just getting started.

I set up a GitHub repo for a Hello World Widget here...

https://github.com/tantangula/widget-hello-world

I tried to document clearly what was involved in cloning the source code and building the widget. I also included all of the steps I went through to set up a development environment using the Widget Preview app. It's not a perfect widget because I am still learning everything that goes into one, but I'm hoping it will help at least get someone started.

I am also wide open to hearing about what I'm doing wrong! Please let me know, and I'll update the widget. I'd ultimately like for this to be a boilerplate that I can use to start all of my widgets.

Thanks!

That is really awesome Stephen! Thanks so much for doing this. I'll take a closer look tomorrow and perhaps submit some feedback in Github.

Cheers!

That sounds great Donna. Please don't be too mad at me for mangling your code!
