Thanks Blake. So what becomes of presentations which contain the widget and will it be reintroduced at the price that was likely to be associated with it?

Dwight,

Presentations that contain the widget will continue to display that widget. It cannot be added to new presentations. There are now multiple different options for weather widgets available on our store.

Hey Blake,
While I enjoy using the platform, I think the experience would be greater if there was some way to inform the community of upcoming changes at least 2 weeks in advance of those changes.

What is the purpose of the removal?

Hi AdGators,

We had development partners interested in releasing weather widgets, so we wanted to allow them to use this market and free up our own developers to work on the Rise platform.

Hi Alex,
It's just a little odd that you'd have development create a new User Interface for your Weather Widget, then give up on all the work put into that product, due to partners offering similar products, you're Weather Widget was working fine....all this for the sake of development? I'm still using your Weather Gadget, which seems to call the same data your Weather Widget.
I'm still a little perplexed at this move. Couldn't you leave it available just like you have the Weather Gadget still available?

This doesn't change much for me, as I plan on using the Weather Gadget now...I just started liking the new Weather Widget was all.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Joe, when we rebuilt the Weather Widget (updated UI) our plan was to begin selling it in the Store, as indicated on the disclaimer within the Widget's Settings.

Shortly after we launched the Store, several 3rd party providers were ready to list their Weather Widgets which forced us to make a decision - move forward with selling our Weather Widget or remove it. We ultimately decided on the latter and it was not an easy decision. A lot of development hrs went into it, but it didn't make sense for us to invest more time into it and compete with 3rd party providers.

With that said, we will be shutting down the weather service that feeds our Weather Widget in time so you should migrate to one of the Weather Widget's available in the Store. We have not set a date for shutting that service down, but when it has been decided, we will post an announcement in advance.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Your understanding is appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply Alan. I'm sorry to see it go, it was a solid piece of code. I hope you keep the product available on your servers for some time, as my designs have been specifically designed for your Weather UI, not only is it extra conversion work on my end...the other weather Widgets now available in the store are not quite the same look and feel as Rise Vision's weather product. I would say, at the end of the day, that I looked forward to paying for your app rather than fixing designs for our current customers.

That being said, I currently host 3 files, RiseVision.Common.min.js, Weather.js, and Weather.xml on my own servers, can I expect those to continuously work...so long as I have those files available to your Rise Vision Platform? I believe that the content source for temperatures is a free source. I think I read the source mentioned years ago in the Rise forums but can't remember the exact name of the source....which I assume ultimately comes from the government weather stations.

Thanks for all the assistance you guys provide. Recently we've been experiencing some growing pains with Rise Vision since our first inception, but overall we've been very pleased with your services.

Sincerely,
Joe Kirchner

The weather service we use to feed the Weather Widget is not a free service. The Weather.js file has a dependency on that weather service and will stop working once we the service has been shut down. Again, we'll post an announcement in advance of that shut down date so you'll have plenty of time to make any changes necessary.

Thanks

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Rise Vision Weather Widget.

Where in the announcements is this located for it being discontinued. Please point me in the right direction for important announcements that might impact my display. Also,  how long before the free RSS feed is discontinued? I just would like to plan ahead and take measures to fix our display before it breaks. Thank you for your help.

I understand why this was merged into this topic but this still is missing my question. Is there an announcement about this product no longer being available? I looked at the announcements a few months back but saw nothing on this no longer being available or going forward with moving to a product you need to pay for. I would assume that do to the fact this would impact a lot of other paying customers displays that this would be on the announcement board. Like before if i'm looking in the wrong location please let me know.

Hi Chris,

Since there are other options for Weather, we did not make an announcement for removal of our Widget. As mentioned earlier in this topic, the Weather Widget will continue to function in existing presentations until we have a plan in place to shut down the data stream that feeds it. When that time comes, we will make an announcement with plenty of time for users that are still utilizing our Weather Widget to make a switch.

If we decide to deprecate the RSS Gadget, we will alert our users through a Community Update, on our blog, and through an email alert. You can subscribe to email alerts under the "Keep in touch" heading at the bottom of www.risevision.com
