I have a spreadsheet that is saved in Google drive using a different Google account to my Rise Google account.  When i navigate in the Google Spreadsheets widget it only seems to allow me to select files on my Rise Google account, how do i navigate to the alternative Google account?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

You will only have access to the google drive of the account that you are currently signed into. You can either share this spreadsheet with the account you use on Rise, or add the gmail account associated with the drive you want to access to your Rise company.

Thanks Blake, i have tried both options but neither of them seem to find the file or give me an option to navigate to the file - am i missing something?

ok, i logged in with the other user name, sorry i didn't spot that earlier.  doh!  I can now see one file in one of the sub folders, but none of the other files are visible.  The visible file is an .xlsx file, all the others are .xlsm, if that helps diagnose why i cannot see them?

Mark,

This all has to do with authentication of your google account. The Rise Platform only has access to the google sheets of the account that you are currently logged into.

  • You are logged into Rise Vision using google account #1
  • You only have access to the spreadsheets associated with google account #1
  • You log into Rise Vision using google account #2
  • You do not have access to the spreadsheets associated with google account #2
The best solution would be the go into account #2, and share the spreadsheet that you would like to display with account #1.

I have shared the spreadsheet from #2 with #1, it appears in the folder on google drive under 'shared with me', but does not appear in the list in the Google spreadsheet widget (all other files appear).  I am logged in as User #1.  Is there a step/selection that i am missing?

Mark,

You need to save that file to User #1s account.

ah, ok, you originally said share - do you mean share or save?  If it is save, it wont work for me as the file is used by account #2 and runs a series of macros to open and save files on account #2's google drive.

Mark,

I've just tested this.

  1. Log into secondary gmail account
  2. Select spreadsheet
  3. Select share (top right)
  4. People section, type in main gmail account, select can edit, select done
  5. Log out of secondary gmail account
  6. Log into main gmail account, log into Rise, select spreadsheet selector in widget, spreadsheet that I just shared appears.

Thanks, that's encouraging, but it still does not display my file.  Please can you confirm you can see a .xlsm file  in the spreadsheet selector in the widget?

Mark,

After sharing the spreadsheet to my main account, I can see and select it using the spreadsheet selector in the google spreadsheet widget.

ok, i have tried many options and it appears that a (my?) shared .xlsM (macro enabled) file cannot be displayed in the google spreadsheet widget.  I have successfully shared .xlsX files as you have described.  I will have another look tomorrow to see if it is unique to my file.  If it is my file, any ideas what might be the problem with it?  Thanks for your support.

Whew! I hope you can end up displaying what you're needing displayed. Let me know if you need anything else.

Hi Blake, i have now saved the file in a different format and can see it and open it successfully in Google Sheets,  I have set the access to public.
I can also see it in the widget and select it, however, it will not accept it as a valid spreadsheet, i get the error 'To use this spreadsheet, it needs to be published to the web and made public. Open your file from the link provided below. From the Google Spreadsheet menu, select File > Publish to the web, and then click the Start Publishing button. Next click Share in the top right of the Spreadsheet, select Advanced, and then set Access to Public. Once done, select your file from the Google Drive button again.'
So i have opened it in Google sheets and followed the first part of the instructions to publish to web, this seems to work.  But, this does not help me as the file will be regularly saved through the macro and i will not be able to complete this part of the process everytime the file is saved.  I think your instructions did not require this step?  Any ideas why this step is now required?

Mark,

If you are publishing a new spreadsheet every time, it's likely you will need to republish to the web and set the permissions to public.

Great, back to the drawing board.  It's holding on to the permissions public settings, but not the publish to web settings - reading through your notes, it does not look like you needed to publish to web;  how did this work?

Mark,

Publishing to the web is actually required, I apologize if I missed that step in my notes.
