Google Spreadsheet timing out and disappearing from display

I am using the google spreadsheet widget to display financial data based on google finance codes. I have the data in a google spreadsheet which has been published to the web and has been made public. When I preview and publish I can see the data without issue both in preview mode and on the display, however, after a certain amount of time (usually 24 hours or so) the entire table disappears from the display.

Logging into my account on the RISE platform I will hit preview and the table will still show without error but until I save and publish again it will not show up on the display. I am having to do this each day to keep the data showing on the display and have tried placing the spreadsheet on different accounts (gmail.com vs a .edu account) to no avail.

Any suggestions to prevent my spreadsheet from disappearing? All other non-spreadsheet content frames in my presentation have not had any issues.

Hi Jon,

Can you tell me, are you using the google spreadsheet widget, or the gadget?

Jon,

We're going to take a look at this to see if we can replicate it as a bug. If we can replicate, we will log an issue with our developers.

Hi Jon,

I suggest you first wait for Blake's reply because he is the Pro knowing or being able to find out if this may be a Widget problem.
From my humble understanding Excel (I did some complex sheets when I was currency trading in Miami), there may be a problem in the Player or in the cache in the device you are using on your display that's probably caused by the frequent data feed from your data source your spreadsheet picks up the data.

If I would be you I would try to sourround the problem by this options:
1. Replace your speadsheet for a day with a spreadsheet that has only permanent content that you simply fill in into the few cells of the sheet. The content can be regular text and no formulas. So you would cut off the data source for a day or two and see if the permanent data will disappear as your financial data do. If not the problem would be cause by your data feed source and you must work from there.

2. In case you designed your present Excel sheet directly in Google, design it again in Windows Excel and upload the MS Windows speadsheet to Google. Test now if the problem will still be there when you use your spreadsheet you designed in MS Office. If not the problem is in the source of Google's spreadsheet source code or so.

Maybe my suggestions can help you to think out of the box.

Best regards,
Frank from Germany.

Thanks Blake and Frank, I'll give that a shot. To clarify, the current sheet I'm using was designed entirely in google spreadsheets, I did not use Excel.

Blake,

I added a second spreadsheet to my presentation that did not include google finance codes, only fixed data. The next day I noticed that while my original table disappeared as usual, the static table remained.

So from my end at least, it appears there is some kind of bug related to dynamic cells or google's financial codes.

Hi Jon,

Have you tried this using the Chrome Player for Linux to see if there is different behaviour?  It uses the version of Chrome that is installed on your machine, whereas the native player you are using uses a fixed, older version of Chrome -  https://help.risevision.com/user/player/chrome-app/chrome-player-linux?cid=f114ad26-949d-44b4-87e9-8528afc76ce4

If you install the Chrome Player, make sure you configure it to reboot nightly per the instructions above.
