google map not displaying

I'm running into an issue with an embedded google map. I already got traffic working, and the map displays fine in the preview of my presentation, but when I run it on the actual player nothing is displayed where the map should be.

I currently have the JS and HTML for the map in the HTML of the presentation (not in an HTML gadget). I am going to play around with where it appears in the code, and putting it into a gadget to see if that eliminates the issue. But I wanted to see if anyone else had encountered something similar and if there was a known workaround.

I am using the chrome app player, on a chromebox. I've tested the preview of the display on the same chromebox and the map works fine, so it is supported by the version of chrome that I am using.

Any insights are appreciated. I'll keep working on it though, and if I happen on a solution of my own I'll post it here.

Joseph,

If you could provide a presentation ID where you are experiencing the issue I'd be happy to be a second set of eyes.

We are currently running the display on a chromebox, so it is using the ChromeOS. Should be the most up to date, stable version.

I've tried a few tweaks to my embed code, as well as moving the code for the map into an HTML gadget, but the problem persists. It is possible that there is a caching issue, but for the moment I am unable to restart the player itself, there are people who still want to look over it this afternoon. I should be able to test a complete restart in a bit though.

Joseph,

I am having no issues running the maps in our Native player app which runs on Linux/Windows. However our chrome app player and chromeOS don't seem to be reacting well to the traffic window. I'm going to look deeper into this and let you know my conclusion.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this. I'm usually pretty good about troubleshooting these kinds of issues, but this one has me stumped. I continue to be surprised and impressed by the quality support from you guys.

Joseph,

We took just the code for the traffic map without the Weather/News items and it is displaying fine on all of our players. It looks like something related to the code in that specific placeholder that is not allowing it to appear, what is is exactly I'm not certain.

I'd love to know when you get this worked out. Everyone in the office has been impressed with this display!

Will do. Knowing that the map works without the other code present is definitely a helpful starting point.

Is it possible to open the chrome developer tools from within the app player. I believe that I am able to open them from the regular windows player using hotkeys, but I have not been able to get it to open in the app player. I'm hoping that by investigating the network and the console I might be able to narrow down the cause of the issue.

Alright, I tried a few more things to fix this without much luck. I moved each of the 3 elements of that part of the display into their own presentations hoping isolating the code might fix the problem. Then I moved the map back into the html gadget. Finally I hosted my own external page with the map embedded in it and used the web gadget. Finally, I put a new placeholder in the main presentation using the web gadget to see if it was an issue with that placeholder.

Everything I tried resulted in the same issue: the map showed fine in the preview, but in the player, nothing.

Because I am not able to take down that display right now, and I don't currently have access to another chromeOS machine to do more rigorous testing with. I am replacing the traffic maps with a live feed of local traffic cameras provided by a local news station. I'll probably revisit this issue when I can test it more thoroughly, but for now it has me stumped.

Update. Apparently removing my css elements for making some of the content partially transparent completely fixed the issue. I'm not sure why the player does not respond well to these elements (as I am using them without issue in other areas of the display) but removing only those parts of the css seems to have resolved things.
