I have set up a Signage and am displaying it using the Google Chrome App Player, It will run great for about 10-15 minutes and then close showing only my windows desktop. I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue?

Lewis,

I can't say that this is something we have been seeing locally. Do you have any scheduled tasks running that may be closing any instances of Chrome?

You may also consider opening performance monitor and seeing if Chrome is crashing due to lack of system resources.

Blake,

I am unaware of any tasks running which would close chrome, I will try running the performance monitor and check if anything funny is happening there.

Thanks for the reply.

I am having a similar issue except that my player will run for days but every few days, when I come in to work in the morning, my display is displaying a Win7 desktop and I have to restart the app.  I see there is an option in the settings for the player box to restart at a regular interval but I have that option deselected.

Bob,

In your case it sounds like Chrome is crashing. I would suggest scheduling a nightly reboot. You can view documentation on how to do that here.

Thanks Blake.  I have set up the Chrome app to autostart on reboot and have setup a daily restart via the instructions.  I am thinking there is something going on when the schedule starts over...meaning after the device is rebooted and the schedule starts and plays through my 7 slides (exactly 4min of time passed), the system gets blocked.  It may be that RAM or excessive connections issue.  Bear with me, I am totally new to RV.

Bob,

It could be Chrome crashing. Can you open performance monitor on your display and let it run while the presentation is running?

The stand alone player will auto restart itself if you close it, anyway to get the chrome app to auto restart itself just like the stand alone player?

Michael,

There is nothing built into Chrome App Player that allows this functionality. There are a number of batch scripts out there that will reopen browser windows if they are closed. We obviously can't support these custom scripts, but they are readily available through a google search.

Would something like this work?

:whileecho WHILE DO
call ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"  --profile-directory=Default --app-id=mfpgpdablffhbfofnhlpgmokokbahooi" "chrome.exe" -loop
goto while
What if the player crashes, but Google Chrome is still running as a window on the desktop. We can't  seem to figure out what is going on here. But we think it is related to Google Updates as it only happens once every few weeks and several players at a time. There's no way for Google Chrome to know to auto-relaunch RVA Player when it closes to update. I previously thought that Google Chrome only updates when it is relaunched but this may not apply to this extension running separately from the chrome browser window.

Any thoughts?

Hi Matthew,

There was a Community Update on the topic of player crashing and we are going to be adding some further suggestions shortly.  The link is here and there is an application called App Monitor that can be installed to restart Player if it stops running.

https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/rise-player-on-windows-crashing-use-applicat...

As I mentioned, we are going to be adding to that shortly, but I would use the Application Monitor rather than your own scripts or batch files.

I totally hacked that up...

echo ##### Start Chrome App Player #####:while
echo WHILE DO
call "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --app-id=mfpgpdablffhbfofnhlpgmokokbahooi -loop
goto while

So this problem has become more common? We're getting calls all of the time related to the player crashing and leaving the chrome blank browser window running on the desktop by itself. I will take a look at this application monitor.

I take it acts like a watchdog?

It acts like a watchdog, yes.
