Going back to using a gadget

The Google Spreadsheet Widget still does not have a horizontal scrolling function available like it's preceding Gadget did.

The Gadget still works - On demo presentations I created, it continues to operate well. I use this to make an easy, updatable 'ticker' for staff to quickly add announcements to the spreadsheet via a google form and the immediately show up on the display.  (I discussed how to do this HERE more than 2 years ago - It is still working great! THIS is an example Form THIS is an example displayTHIS is the Spreadsheet & Formulas (I'm using the 'current' page, but you could also display any upcoming items.)  Unfortunately, the Gadget is not available anymore from the GUI.

How would I go about adding back a Google Spreadsheet Gadget into a new presentation?  Do I need to set up my own gadget hosting environment and see if the gadget is still on github?  Are there instructions for how to do this easily?

Hi Ben,

The Spreadsheet Gadget is no longer available to new presentations. I'm not aware of being able to download the source code, as I'm not seeing it referenced in a github repo. I'll contact our Content department about this.

As Blake said it is no longer available in our store. However, if you do have it already in an old presentation there is a copy widget/gadget feature when you select 'add'. You can then paste it within a new presentation's placeholder.

Hello,
This is very annoying that the Sheet gadget disappeared and by the way without prior notice. I must admit I did not check earlier who was the owner off. Was it a RiseVison self made gadget?
For the Company I'm working on, we are finalizing the study to deploy it for internal communication and it was a key gadget for us.
I know RiseVison is for free and for free, we have to admit some limitations. However, it is hard to validate a worldwide deployment for my Company with features that may disappear from one day to the other without any prior notice.

Hi Thierry, It looks like the Google Sheets Widget is still available, however Google Spreadsheets Gadget has been removed for quite awhile, and with that went the horizontal scrolling....unless I'm missing something....

Yep - widget is still there, but doesn't do a ticker-style scroll like the old gadget.

Hi Thierry, the Spreadsheet Gadget was indeed created by us. It has been deprecated and unavailable for quite a while now. With that said, it is open source and available in the Github repository here, https://github.com/Rise-Vision/gadgets. You are more than welcome to continue using that, but we no longer support it.

We have recently built an experimental Web Component that will retrieve data from a Google Spreadsheet that will enable a web designer to do whatever they want with that data. You can check that out here, https://github.com/Rise-Vision/rise-google-sheet if you are interested.

Let me know if that helps. Thanks!

Mind discussing the difference between this and the spreadsheet widget?

When you say "this" I assume you are referring to the Spreadsheet Component vs Spreadsheet Widget. Let me know if something else.

Take a look at the two Articles linked below and let me know if that helps. Thanks!
