Embedded Presentation Trial Rollout Causing Display ID in use Error

Hi Rise,
I attempted to schedule a presentation which contained existing embedded presentations to a display today and experienced a Display ID In use Error on the screen. Rescheduling, a different presentation does not fix the issue, in a sense the Display ID acts as though it's blacklisted permanently....I had to remove the rvplayer folder and re-execute the installation file to get any content running again. After about 60 minutes of testing, I figured out that the issue was that the old Embedded Presentation Gadget was causing the errors.

During your forum post about embedded presentations will now contain a cost, I noticed the new Embedded Presentations Widget in the Rise Store. I checked on my older Presentations using the old Gadget and they said they had 411 days left...I think to myself, great...some breathing room to convert. Today I see it says I have 30-days left, and anytime I schedule a presentation containing the old Gadget Embedded Presentations, the Display ID gets blocked...despite the 30-day Trail of the Embedded Presentation is shown...

I'm thinking there is something in your system hitting the old Embedded Presentation Gadget. If you could please bump that back to 411 days I would be very grateful, as I'm going to need some time to make the conversion. I've no problem with pay for this additional feature, but I ask that since the decision to allow/support/charge for an Embedded Presentation Widget is less than a month old, to allow for some time to convert the old Gadget Embedded Presentations.

Thank you,
Joe Kirchner

Hi Robb, some more intel for you, I took a small sample size and thankfully this doesn't seem to be affecting other customers within my Company. This particular sub-company is a new addition as of 2-3 months ago and the presentation was built using the Classic Editor, and maintained using the New Editor.

Joe,

Looking at this a bit further, you did not use an Embedded Presentation in your Parent Company in the last 30 days, so this would be the reason that your Company did not get a year trial. I see that there are some Sub-Companies under you that have been using it, and they have the year+ long trial. Does that sound like what you are seeing?

I'm investigating the duplicate Display issue now.

I see, so because I added this Sub-company in the last 30-days I didn't meet the year Trial for existing embedded presentations for that particular sub-company? Or is this a staple across the board for all existing Embedded Presentations created within the last 30-days of the release of the new embedded presentation widget?

Also, I re-checked those other sub-company's and they no longer show 411 days, they are down to 30-days...do you mind explaining more about the year trial and how it works, I don't recall that in the original forum post about the Embedded Presentation rollout.

Thanks Robb,
Joe Kirchner

Joe,

We have replicated the Duplicate Display ID error, and we are working on this now. I will update this conversation once we have corrected this.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick fix Robb. Can you comment any on the 30-day trial that I'm seeing, versus the 411-day trial that I had seen earlier. Will it sit at 30-days for a year and then be charged or how will this migration work?

Hi Robb,
I checked today and the Timeline left for the old Embedded Presentations is 404 days, so we're looking good. This gives me plenty of breathing room to convert, so thank you!

Also one additional thing to report, I had a presentation using embedded presentation gadget running on Linux Mint 15 Olivia with the latest Rise Player version issue a Duplicate DisplayID error today. I attempted to fix by removing the Embedded Presentation Gadget, however the display now will only present a white screen. I'm chalking this up to a buggy incompatibility between your latest player and an outdated OS. We're working with the location to get the OS up-to-date, so no worries on this one. I'll let you know if it happens after the OS update.

My original issue at the other customers was resolved and we're back running the older Embedded Presentation gadget without issue there.

Thank you for all your help,
Joe Kirchner

Joe,

In the Parent Company, since you use an Embedded Presentation in the last 30 days, that was the reason that your Company did not get a year trial. Since your Sub Company was using it within the last 30 days, hey have the year+ long trial.

On that Mac, I imagine that you must have been using the Chrome App Player, as we do not have a supported Player for the Mac OS.

Let me know if that helps!

Hi Robb,
My 400 Day trial is back, so we are good there.

I'm not sure I mentioned anything about an Apple, in my earlier post I was using Linux Mint Olivia 15, which isn't technically supported by Rise...I've updated to the latest Ubuntu 14.04 OS and re-installed the RV Player....everything appears to be working properly again.

Thanks for your help,
Joe Kirchner

Yikes, my apologies Joe, I have no idea why I saw Apple OS there anywhere..I must have been temporarily insane for a short moment :)

Either way, I'm glad that upgrading to 14.04 corrected the issue!
