Display not updating when googlesheet is updated

I have two screens in particular out of a total of 8 at a site that display menu information.  The manager adjusts the google spreadsheet and unless the Rise Player is rebooted it doesn't recognize their was a change so it doesn't refresh.  Rebooting the chrome box or the rise player fixes the problem.  Any suggestions outside of deprovisioning the chrome box, wiping it and re-enrolling it with the google MDM?

Part 2:

Is there a way to allow a user to reboot specific displays without giving them permission to other functionality?  I saw display administrator but it didn't seem like the permissions were granular at all.

Thanks

Have you tried saving schedule; also saving and then publishing presentation. This way you can manually push content updates to your player. Have you tried rebooting application from display control panel?

Hi Darius,

thanks for the reply.  The manager is updating the spreadsheet and hitting save.  They are not going into rise to republish or schedule anything.  My understanding the google sheet widget is supposed to pole the documents its pointed at to refresh based on changed every so often.

Rebooting the application from Rise Vision or rebooting the chrome box fixes the problem as it forces a check against the sheet.

We don't provide the users access to content since its centrally managed and they would shoot their toes off.

We have roughly 150 screens and growing daily and it doesn't appear any of the other menu boards don't actively check for a change in the google sheet.

I don't really want to pay someone to wipe and re-enroll a device to check a hunch that its a bad install of rise player.

Mike, I'd first verify that the Spreadsheet being modified is the one used in the Presentation. If it is, another good test would be to run the Presentation in Preview from the same network the media players are on.

From Preview, open up Developer Tools

Once Developer Tools is opened, select the Network. You will see all the request being made from Preview, including the request to the Google Spreadsheet. You can filter the request for just those to the Google Spreadsheet by entering  tq?gid in to the search field.

The minimum refresh rate is 5 minutes so let this run for at least 5 minutes or until you see at least one request. Check the status for the request. They should show a status of 200. If they don't show 200, let us know what you do see.

And can you please confirm if you are using a custom layout?

Thanks!

That is weird, our Chromebox devices work without any problem, even in places with really weak WiFi. I, personally, find Spreadsheet Widget one of the best RV has. The longest i had to wait for content update was maybe 10-15 min. Let me ask you this, do you see your presentations updating in online preview? Or is it just your players that do not get updates? What players are those?

Update on the scenario.   I tried the developer mode and anytime it connects out to rise vision it displays the proper information from the google sheet.  If the google sheet is updated it doesn't update the screen until the player is rebooted.  I was able reproduce the problem in our lab using the same sheet so its not a hardware issue.  Definitely a configuration or google sheet issue.

Hi Mike,

I have been able to recreate this issue and I've logged an issue with our developers here https://github.com/Rise-Vision/widget-google-spreadsheet/issues/131.
