Display ID activation on Chromebook

I work in a school and I'm testing with a Chromebook so I can justify buying a few Chrome boxes for the next school year. I'm into a problem when I try to put in the Display ID because the apply button doesn't seem to be working on the RV app.

I do not have access to the Chrome Device Manager that is being used to manage this Chromebook, so I can't use it. I've done everything that is available online. Another issue is that when I try to put in http://localhost:9449/config into a web page gadget in a presentation, I get an error saying that it is not a proper URL.

Any help would be awesome!

Joseph,

That's very odd that the apply button isn't working for you. I'm going to do some testing on a local chromebox/book and see if I can replicate.

If the presentation is not running on the local machine, the localhost web page will not appear.

Joseph - Try closing down all running instances of RV player (there could be multiple) abs restart it.

I faced similar freeze/unresponsiveness while testing something and above method fixed it.

I am assuming you're running RV app and RV player in the same machine.

Hi Sanjay,

I've closed down every RV process that I could find on the Chromebook. I even removed the RV app and I'm still running into the same problem.

I tried logging into the RV site but I get a red banner error about Remote Procedure Call Failure. The date and time on the chromebook are correct so I'm not sure what the issue is.

I've been able to get everything to work on multiple Windows PCs and even a Raspberry Pi. Not sure why the chromebook is being a pain.

Joseph,

Can you try powerwashing the device and starting from scratch?

Since the device is managed by my school district, I can't. I'll see if I can get it to work on a vm of chromium OS.

Edit: Ok, I got it to work on the Chromebook. Here's what I did:

  1. Remove the RV Chrome App Player
  2. Install the RV Digital Signage Platform and open it
  3. Went to Displays and copied the Display ID
  4. Installed the RV Chrome App Player
  5. Pasted in the ID
  6. The presentation started right away.
Not sure what the difference was/is, but it's working now. Thanks for the help.

Joseph,

Glad to hear you were able to get it working. I hope the Rise Platform is able to suit your needs.
