Date and Weather gadgets are days behind actual time!

I have 6 currently running displays, all with the same presentation. Two are at my branch offices at geographically different locations. I use the RV date and Weather gadgets in the presentation.

When I installed the first off-site display, the date/time was 4 days behind actual. The weather, likewise was showing incorrect data for the day and the forecast. The computers these displays are running on are all Raspberry Pi's rev B running Raspbian June 2014 release, fully updated.

the RPI's all have the correct system date. I tried setting the weather gadget to use geolocation, which just broke it and nothing was displayed. I normally have it set by ZIP code.

All RPI's except one are in the Eastern time zone, and are set accordingly. The one oddball of the group is in Indiana and set as such. If you open LXterminal and ask the system what the time/date is, it is correct.

I will add an image to my posting here, the picture of the display was taken on July 17th, at 8:08am. However the time/date gadget shows that it is the 14th at 2:51pm. Like wise, this was a Thursday, however the weather seems to think that it is a Monday, and thus shows the Mon/Tues/Wed forecast.

EDIT: I should add that the preview of the presentation shows the correct date/time/weather.

Any ideas?

Can you try clearing the cache on the Pi to see if that clears the problem?

Also, when you Preview the Presentation, do you see accurate information?

Thanks.

I've run a copy of your Presentation on the Pi I have here, and it is showing the correct date/time on it.

The date and time that are shown in a Presentation are actually taken from the system time on the computer. I'm including a screenshot of the date/time from my Pi when I had it running

Thanks.

Thanks Neal, that helps narrow it down to a system problem on my remote Pi units.

I never did set up any type of remote access for these units, the closest is 110 miles away.. any suggestions for an easy and efficient method of remote access to manage such a device?

Otherwise, I'll bring a wireless keyboard and mouse with me the next time I'm on-site performing network maintenance. No date/time or weather is not goin got kill my employees, regardless of what belly-aching they do. lol.

You should check out our optimization guide for the Pi, it goes over setting up and connecting remotely using Vino (Pi version of VNC).

Let us know how you make out!

Hi guys,  I am having the same issue here in Hong Kong on an ASUS Chromebox.  Any idea how to clear the cache on one of those boxes?  Thanks!

Tony,

You can try using the restart player button in the RVA platform, also connecting a keyboard and pressing f5 should refresh the presentation.

Blake, thanks but I have a full-time job.  Can't stand around pushing buttons all day ;-)
I think I will try to edit the source code and just offset by removing "Current Day" and show Day2, Day3.  Thanks!

Tony,

How often are these presentations lagging behind? Are you using geolocation to set the time/weather? Can you try using a specific address or city instead?

It happens everyday. I use display address so it shows Hong Kong. , otherwise it's inaccurate with Geo. don't get anything when I use address or city that I recall, but I can give it another try.

Hi Blake,

Good news.  The manual adding of "Hong Kong" loads much faster.  As far as the date problem, well that was having GMT set to -8 instead of +8.  Thanks for the help in figuring it out.

Best,

Tony
