Hi Everyone,

I have been asked to setup a display in our school lobby. I have installed ubuntu for the first time on a gigabyte computer. I have installed rise vision player and followed these instructions

http://www.risevision.com/help/rise-vision-linux-player-optimization/

The problem I'm having is I can't seem to start rvplayer, is there something im forgetting to install. Also in the apps rise vision player doesn't appear.

Thanks in advance

Rob

Can you confirm that you're using the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 14.04?

The Rise Vision Player won't show in the list of Applications. To start it manually, you can open a Terminal Window (CTRL+ALT+T) and type ./rvplayer/rvplayer /S

Yes I'm running 32 bit 14.04.1

I ran your command in the terminal and this is what came up

allsouls@Entrance:~$ ./rvplayer/rvplayer /S

Is Java up to date an downloaded? I tell ya, I know you frustration with being new to ubuntu. I set up 4 had my own set of issues and delays but ended up working through all of them. Given the time it took etc an build of PC I switch to chromebox platform and love it. Any other installs will be using chrome.

Hi, I have finally managed to get riseplayer working and it looks great. I have 1 small issue now though. I have this setup using a HDMI monitor and can't seem to turn off the screen saver. I went to settings-brightness and lock and tried to change turn off screen when inactive to never, however this automatically changes back to 5 minutes when I come out the settings menu. Is there a command i can run i the terminal to turn the screensaver and alter power management.

Thanks

You can try the following: open a Terminal Window (CTRL + ALT + T) and type “gksu gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf” (without the quotes) and overwrite the text in there with the following:

Section “ServerFlags”
Option “BlankTime” “0′′
Option “StandbyTime” “0′′
Option “SuspendTime” “0′′
Option “OffTime” “0′′
EndSection

When I typed this in a blank document appeared, I copied the text into it and saved the file. This unfortunately has still failed to solve the screen saver coming on. Have you got another suggestion.

Thanks

Also when i save the file this message appears in terminal

(gedit:30823): Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files

"gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.session idle-delay 0" will set the inactivity timer to never

I've seen similar messages in the Terminal window when I've run commands like gksu, or sudo.  I take it to be something that the operating system does and not really reflective of what I am doing at the time.

Just typed in and got this

allsouls@Entrance:~$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.session idle-delay 0

(process:30955): dconf-WARNING **: failed to commit changes to dconf: GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._g_2dfile_2derror_2dquark.Code17: Cannot open dconf database: invalid gvdb header

I hope there is a solution as risevision software looks really good, just cant have a screen saver appearing after 5 mins.

Based on the message, it appears that there may be some corrupt files.

Can you try "mv ~/.config/dconf/ ~/.config/dconf.bak" This will move the folder to a backup so that it can be recreated. (taken from here).
