tl;dr: How can I clear the cache for RisePlayer on ChromeOS?

I've got a Dell ChromeBox running the Rise Player Chrome Extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/de...). Per http://blog.risevision.com/user-tips-..., I'm trying to find and delete the cache folder for the Rise Player which (I assume) would be called cachervplayer, since ChromeOS is just Linux under the hood. I'm using the URL option to display the content of a website, rather than creating a presentation in the Rise Vision management interface.

Trouble is, I can't find any folder called cachervplayer, or anything similar. I've even used the good ol' unix find command off of /, but there is no file with such a name. As a result, I'm still getting a cached version of my page in Rise Player, even if I pull up and refresh the page in Chrome itself. I've even removed and re-added the Rise Player, but the old cached page lingers!

Jonathan,

When you have the Player running, you can open another instance of Chrome and go to this URL, or you can go to this URL in a Presentation: http://localhost:9449/config.

On there, you will see the option to clear the cache. I hope that helps!

Regarding the Chrome App Player, we have had problems providing a reliable service with Chrome Applications and at this point in time we have put further work on the Rise Vision Chrome App Player on hold. I wanted to make sure you were aware of that. Thanks!

Perfect! Thanks, Robb.

As a side note, I took a look at Chrome's network tab and noticed that you can also hit localhost:9494/clear_cache directly, which might be helpful for clearing the cache of your Rise Player in a scripted way.

I'm a skoche nervous about what you're saying about the Chrome App Player. Is there a recommended/reliable player that I should consider using instead? Particularly one that will work in the context of ChromeOS?

Jonathan,

Unfortunately not at this time. Rather than just cutting and pasting, I would recommend taking a read of the current status of the Chrome App Player listed here.

I hope that helps, and if you have any questions, please let us know. Thanks!

Robb, I am sorry but could you please guide me step-by-step through this. I have a problem with RV on Chromebox not updating the Web page Widget. I tried clearing the browsing history, but apparently there is a problem with RV App cache. How do I exactly clear it? Your first post did not really tell me much. I am sorry I am such a noob )))

Yikes, that's not what we like to hear. Did the issues with the Web Page Widget just start happening all of a sudden?

I was running this setup just for a week and it was all fine and dandy, but on Friday the widget on Chromebox would not update a webpage, on windows machine it was OK. Yesterday they both would not update that webpage; however, the next item in rotation, Google Slides (embedded using the webpage widget) was updating just fine (I think... I really did not spend much time investigating). Publishing and restarting the app did not do the trick for Windows machine, only hard restart helped. Nothing worked for Chromebox. Eventually, I decided to correct things using some HTML, but it is yet to be determined if I was successful.

Hmm...that's a weird one. I wonder if something changed with Google Slides...again.

Be sure to keep us updated!

Robb, Google Slides are fine, no problem there. The darn web page is... was the problem. What I did and I am testing now is this 'matryoshka' thing ) I made a simple page with an iframe that is showing the page I need in it. One, I think... hope the web page widget is not catching what is in that iframe. Second, this allows me to fiddle with HTML outside the widget. All this because I have no access to the webpage I need to display.

Ah necessity, the mother of invention!

Well done Darius!
