Classic Editor: Option to add image in placeholder missing

  • Not a Problem
When trying to update our Presentation today with new content, we found that we no longer have the option to add images. The workflow used to be:
 - right click the placeholder
 - Go down to our images and select "Add"
 - Choose image

As you can see below the option is now completely gone. Is there a new workflow? Considering that is how we do 99% of our content, I'm hoping I am simply overlooking something.

Hi Jonathan,

The shortcuts to add Image, Text, and HTML in Classic Editor were removed earlier this week. The shortcuts referenced old projects that were no longer being developed or supported.

You can still add Images to Presentations in the Classic Editor using the Image Widget. Those instructions are here.

I am guessing you all suggest taking the plunge and converting everything to the new editor?

I knew the day would come.....

Is the official way going forward to use the widget? Or is there a similar option in the new editor?

Jonathan,

All of our new improvements are going into the "new" Editor. It's a really slick interface, and everyone that I've talked to that has converted really likes it. It's up to you whether you begin using it or not, but I suggest you at least give it a shot :)

The Image Widget is the supported method of displaying an image in a Presentation. Check out the article I wrote on how to Create a Presentation. It covers adding content to the new Editor!

I don't care about a "slick interface" or that everyone you've talked to really "likes it"> I just want to reduce my steps and you've increased them with the idea of a widget. Even Adobe editors, Wordpress and this community page still retain the standard "Text" option shortcuts without the requirement of widgets so how does RiseVision consider additional steps an improvement and depricate what is already working? Short-sighted. Fail. See comments below.

I work in a hospitality environment with multiple events going on all month long.  I usually uploaded all my graphics for the month at one time, inserted them into the presentation and let the time edits take care of when to display or drop the images.  Now I am assuming that can't be done using a widget with a folder of images.  So, I am thinking I now have to create a widget for each image I am using so that I can control the time limits individually.  Otherwise, instead of spending half a day getting my monthly event displays and being done, I have to consistently remember to monitor it to delete or add images.  Before it was a simple, click to upload, a single click to add and configure and be done.  Maybe I can work out a solution to make it 'slick' and 'really like it', but it has done nothing but create more work for me at this point.

Marsha,

You can certainly still accomplish that. In regards to "I usually uploaded all my graphics for the month at one time, inserted them into the presentation and let the time edits take care of when to display or drop the images"  You can do this the exact same way you did before, just upload those files to Storage, and go the Placeholder that has the links to the images, open the Widget settings, and change it to point to the new image.

Based on what you described, I think you may find the Folder functionality useful. With the Image Widget, you can set it to point to a folder of images and show all images in that folder. You can add or remove images to that folder at https://storage.risevision.com, and there is no need to update the Presentation, the Widget will add and remove the images all on its own.

I hope those will work for you!

Seriously.........if you are putting all your development into the New editor then why mess with the old one? Do you have ANY idea how many emails I get from people about this? I have many sites all over North America and it's not like I can go visit all of them and re-train people to the new site unless they take the plunge themselves. Its the same as the new software (leaving Chromium) means that I have to visit every site and do it for them, not fee-sable here and I can't leave it to property managers who have a hard time understanding what a web browser is and how to log into RiseVision.

Just stop messing with things that work and that people are used to.

Coppertop001,

The reason these options were removed from the Classic Editor is because they were deprecated items. We didn't want users to continue adding deprecated content to Presentations, as there was the possibility it may not work as intended, and running supported Widgets will result in a more reliable Digital Signage Presentation.

I hope that helps to clarify!

Except many of the units that are running by my clients are still using old software so depreciated items still work fine.....like I said, I have many units all over North America, I can't just goto the device and update it, my clients are property managers for condos, writing an email is mostly the extent of their computer knowledge......getting them to update the software on the device won't work, then on top of that constant changes to the website just causes countless emails and pissed off clients.

Basically, with my clients, countless frustrations of software changes requiring updates, website changes, lets just say the name RiseVision is a sore spot with many of them.

coppertop001, you cannot hold RV accountable for you doing business, which requires not only computer skills, but some basic FTP/HTML/CSS etc. knowledge, with people that have no such knowledge. RV is trying to improve their product/service for all of us for no to little money. And you piggy-back on this, do not you? Switching to the New Editor was right decision for us and me personally. I like it, although it is not perfect and many things need improvement. Even so, it is times better compared to that old shait. Do not want to start argument, just wanted you to know that there are people with different opinion.

What you can do is hold online training sessions or make simple videos for YouTube on how to do things in the new editor for your clients.

coppertop001,

If it was unclear, you can still add content to Presentations utilizing the Classic Editor. Instructions for that are here.

If you have many users that manage their own devices and don't have a solid foundation with Rise Vision to build upon, you might want to direct them to our Getting Started Guide. This should help them get familiar with the basics.

you need to bring back the classic editor. this widget implementation doesn't retain copy pasted justification properties nor allows legibility of letters that contain an alpha. Any way to alert Risevision to these errors or retain at least the text portion of the classic editor? Hope so

Andrew,

Any chance you could send support@risevision.com a link to your Presentation that you are having this issue with? I'd like to investigate this and get a bug logged to correct.

Thanks!

If you are adding an image URL using the NEW editor, is there a way to see the URL address after the image is added? In the classic editor, you click into the Settings and see the URL address for each image (this was an easy way to preview your images and make sure they were working), but i don't see a way to view/change the URL address on the new editor.

Hi Brenda,

Instead of trying to type out everything, I went ahead and created an overview video for you. I hope this helps!

hi Blake, related to the same issue here, I don't have RV storage account, I basically push my images from my Google drive. before the "Slick" update, I was able to add image from the drive's public folder and get the image ID, as google only gives you path with ID of your file. would you happen to know any cool tricks to get the .jpg url from google drive?
Thanks
Zee

Yes, the cool trick is to get a proper online hosting service. Do not be cheap, those aren't that expensive anymore. Rise Vision storage is good and affordable. Google drive was never intended to be used as a storage for online publishing.

Is there an easy way to add multiple individual image URLs within a placeholder? In the Classic editor, you could easily add additional images... but the only option I see in the new editor is to "duplicate" a previous image and change the URL address.

Also - can you add a feature to name your images within a placeholder? This was in the classic editor, and I don't see this option on the new editor. For example, if you want to remove one image, you have to go thru them individually and don't know which is which...

You'll need to add an additional Image Widget and URL for each image.

You can change the name of the Images within a Placeholder, click the duration icon. This will open the Widget settings, and you can change the name there :)

it is actually an nu-needed step, like someone posted earlier. In today's world it seems everyone is out for graphics and a clean look, rather then an easy to use system. In a future release, Rise Vision should add the ability to skip widget creation and add a right click option on the "new" editor for text and images. I understand this is about marketing and forcing people to look at the widgets, but, if I need a widget I will look for one.... Just a suggestion.
