I have an Asus Chromebox, but I can't get it into kiosk mode.  I went through all the steps, and it seemed to be going well, but at the end when I rebooted it, it did not come back in Kiosk mode, just to the screen with the yellow exclamation mark.  When I went through the process again, it says 'invalid extension'.  I've tried resetting the box, powerwashing, putting it in developer mode and even recovering it, but no dice, every time I go to set up the kiosk mode it still says invalid extension.  Any ideas?

Kevin,

Can you confirm that you're following the steps outlined here to to enable Kiosk mode, correct?

Also, you're using mfpgpdablffhbfofnhlpgmokokbahooi for the ID in the Manage Kiosk Applications?

Thanks.

Yes to both.  I'm going to try resetting it again, and logging in with a different google account.  That's the only thing I can think to do.

FYI this worked.  New chrome account and the extension installed no problem.  Thanks for your help.

Vuco,

Please follow these steps;

1.        Wipe Data on Chromebox
1.        After wipe is completed, you will be at the welcome screen. (Input your network information, but DO NOT LOGIN to the Chromebook)
2.        At the login screen, press CTRL+ALT+K and enable Kiosk mode.
3.        Login into the Chromebox
4.        Open a new tab in Chrome, and enter chrome://extensions in the address bar (also known as the omnibox). Click enter.
5.        Check the box next to Developer Mode.
6.        Click Add kiosk application, and enter the ID of the Kiosk App you'd like to enable.
7.        Highlight the Kiosk App and select "auto launch"
8.        Press Enter or click Done.
9.        Reboot and when asked, enable app for Kiosk mode
10.        Now the app will auto launch each time you reboot.
11.        To Turn off Kiosk Mode, begin by rebooting the Chromebox. While the device is starting up, press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+S to interrupt the process and return to the login screen.

Hello, I was just about to purchase a chromebox when I saw this https://help.risevision.com/user/player/chrome-app/configure-kiosk-mode which says that kiosk mode has to be enabled via "Chrome Device Management" which is not a free service.

Can you confirm that I don't need this and can use the instructions in the "For non managed devices" section found here https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/3134673?hl=en ?

Thank you

Marc,

At this time, the article you linked does function for non-managed devices. I cannot verify that google will continue to allow this access in the future.

The pay device management doesn't work for Horizon view client either.  we have the service (school district) and power management is pathetic.
