EDIT MARCH 21, 2018: Please note that all conversations related to Chrome OS in this Community should be considered obsolete and out of date. As announced in our new Community, Rise Vision is adding support for Chrome OS with a new version of Rise Player for Chrome OS.

Just wanted to share my experience recently troubleshooting Chromebits with RiseVision and what I discovered.  Maybe it will help someone down the road.

The issue I had was I had 3 Chromebits - which all displayed the same 15 minute long video - completely shut off every few days - and I didn't know why.  The only way to get them working again was to physically unplug them and plug them back in.  It was acting like the device was overheating and shutting down - but I couldn't be sure.

Here's how I figured out what was happening:
  1. I enabled "Enable device system log upload" in the Device kiosk settings area in the Chrome Management system.
  2. The next day, I navigated to the device in the Chrome Management system and I was able to download some log files.  The download was a zip file of various logs.  The one that was interesting was eventlog.txt
  3. In the eventlog.txt file, I could clearly see that after a certain date, the device was actually going to sleep.  The behavior started at a very specific date, so it appears to be related to a Chrome OS update.
  4. I contacted our Google partner, Promevo, and they suggested enabling the following setting in Chrome Management: App Management -> Rise Player -> Kiosk Settings -> Browse to the Organizational Unit where your digital signage chrome devices are -> Turn on "Allow app to manage power"

Since enabling that setting, I have had no issues with the devices powering down.

Hope that helps someone!
