Chrome app player crashing

I'm having an issue with chrome crashing. I have the watchdog script enabled so it starts right back up but my display is also being blocked MULTIPLE times a day. I believe that its crashing enough then starting back up enough that the blocking is a result of the crashing. I've updated chrome to the most recent update, as well as the OS (Ubuntu) to most current. The crashing seems to have slowed with the chrome update but its still a problem. Is it something in my presentation? My presentations are heavily populated with videos. I'm using a NUC with 64GB HDD with at least 4GB of memory. I've even updated the images to the images widget to see if that would help, but no luck. My displays would get blocked in the past because I was using the old built in video tool.

Hi DSquared,

You mentioned that you installed the latest version of Chrome and are using Ubuntu.

In this Announcement (https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/rise-player-on-ubuntu-crashing-use-this-scri...), there is also a comment in there from Matthew Fisher about the latest version of Chrome having a bug and so an earlier version should be installed until such time as Google puts out another version of Chrome with a fix.

To quote the relevant portion:

" ... make sure all of the updates are installed--except the Chrome browser itself.
There is a known issue with the current version of Google Chrome (logged here: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=473821) and the workaround that we're telling people is to revert back to the last version that does not contain the bug--and make sure it doesn't get automatically updated to the broken version.

Previous versions can be downloaded here:

32 bit:  http://mirror.pcbeta.com/google/chrome/deb/pool/main/g/google-chrome-stable/google-chrome-stable_42....

64 bit: http://mirror.pcbeta.com/google/chrome/deb/pool/main/g/google-chrome-stable/google-chrome-stable_42....

These are not Rise Vision links and we cannot guarantee their availability or security."

Can you give that a try and let us know if that helps?

Okay, thank you. I came across a post from for weeks ago that said go ahead and update, so I did.

You're welcome.  I think this has been a known issue with version 43 for just a little while now but apart from that normally I use an updated version of Chrome.

DSquared,

Are you seeing blocking messages on your displays?
