=====================================================================================================================================================

Hi, I work for a K12 school district and I have been playing with Rise Vision for about a month, but yesterday we finally mounted a large television and connected a Chromebox to it. Our presentation was running all day yesterday but when we came in this morning, the application started quitting (in kiosk mode) and rebooting over and over. I switched over to my user account and ran the player, and I get an error "Rise Vision Chrome App Player has crashed. Click this balloon to restart the app". When I reload the app it crashes immediately. Any ideas? The box was accidentally set to beta mode, but I changed it this morning, but the app continues to crash.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bryan

Bryan,

What kind of content are you running on this? Any custom webpages or html items?

Hello again. I'm almost at the fixed point. I wiped the system, and when I run the Rise Vision player, it now plays (I had to enter the display ID into the player, but I'm still unable to create the actual display. I have the player installed, but when I press save display, I get an error that the display software is not installed.

Bryan,

Let me recap, let me know if I'm wrong.

  • You have created a display on the Rise Vision platform.
  • You have added Chrome App Player to the Chrombox
  • You have put the display ID from step 1 into the Chrome App Player on step two
When and where do you receive this error message?

[Fixed] Disregard my last message. I had to have the player running in the background in order to save. My brain is just a little mush at this point. Wiping the Chromebox fixed the problem. I would love to know why it stopped working in the first place, but it is working again, so why worry until it happens again. This is a side note question -- we're new to the Chrome OS world. Is there any way to remote into the chromebox to fix problems instead of climbing up a ladder and plugging in a keyboard?

Thanks for all your help, Blake.

Glad you got it fixed.

As for why, we have been monitoring an issue with the development channel that has moved to beta today. We have pinpointed the issue, however we were hoping it would be addressed by google. Our developer will be correcting this soon.

ChromeOS does have a remote desktop extension, however it is not possible to access while the unit is in kiosk mode.

Ah, so if the box was not in Beta mode, I wouldn't have had the problem. The box is all fixed and back in stable mode.

This looks like the problem I'm having too. Resetting the box to stable channel and seeing if that fixes it.

My chrome boxes are showing down. Going to see in person now....: does the device auto update to new player or does it need to be manually downloaded?

ChromeOS devices will auto update.
