Can't get video to play

I can't seem to get video to play on my displays. The entire presentation is just one 1920x1080 video. I've tried using the video setting with .mp4's and I've tried the video content plug-in with .webm files. The presentations preview fine but the displays only show black. When mixed with static content the static presentations play, then go to black for the video, then return to the static slide just fine. Is there some setting I'm missing?

Hi Aaron,

What media player and OS are you running?

Have you used the Video widget item and WebM format together?  Also - can you confirm that your media player is running the Chrome Application?

Thanks!

Thanks,

I've tried using the webm and the video widget, still no go. We're using NEC displays with their built-in tuner.

Aaron,

Is the Chrome App Player installed on your devices?

We are actually running android and the rise vision player.

I used the chrome browser to login to rise and preview the video and it does not preview on the display, although it previews on our desktops. I played the video locally on the display and it played fine. I also tried youtube and vimeo to make sure our network wasn't blocking anything and they streamed fine.

Aaron,

What type of Android device are you using? The Android devices require the use of a different widget in order to display videos (such as the Cenique Android Video Gadget).

We're using the OPS-DRD player from NEC running android 4.2.2

Aaron,

Even though this is not a Cenique player, you can contact them at support@cenique.com and see if this Gadget will work for your player:

Any other users out there have experience with this NEC player?

Hey Justin, He contacted me through my testing forum. The player is an All-Winner device and video tends to be an issue with all-winner devices. I did however let him try the beta version of my test app to see if the new chromium library would make a difference. Hopefully it will be we will see.

Still no luck getting video to play. Is there an OPS style media player that anyone could recommend that is known to work?

Aaron,

We've had the best luck with this model from NEC (OPS i5), running Windows:

We finally got it to work. It was a combination of William Oneal's beta rise player and the html5 video widget.

However, a new problem has emerged - the video doesn't loop. It plays for whatever duration and then goes to black. With the folder widget it plays through a few times, then goes to black, then after awhile it starts again but this time it'll freeze.

Something I would do is be sure the codec is correct. Some MP4 and some webm formats are actually done wrong by the device or software that makes them. I would try re-encoding them. I use handbrake for MP4 especially if I'm converting from webm. It seems to format all my videos correctly to use on android. Also I had a similar issue with webm format on firetv. It's plays but doesn't loop because the video didn't report it was finished. I use handbrake to convert it to MP4 and worked fine after that. i would suggest the same first because that would eliminate a encoding issue.

I use Handbrake as well, although the files I'm using are coming directly out of adobe.

Try re encoding one with handbrake or try this video.

It's my go to video that has never failed me on android. Also something else to try is if your doing a single video then make sure in the settings continuous loop is enabled. If your doing multi videos, then find the video it stops on. The order should be the same as set in the placeholder. the one it stops on could be the issue or the one next to play in the list is bad.

Let me know. Hopefully we can get it playing.

So it plays, but it stutters and starts and stops.  There's also a dip to black for a sec between videos. We're trying to play a series of full screen 6 sec videos but it's just not smooth. Do you think it's a hardware issue?

It has to be. I never did like all winner for hardware on android. There codecs have been known to be bad on video side of things. I have two all winner devices and i just have no use for them other than testing. One of which video never worked on it correctly and that might be the same issue your having. I will do some more testing and see if i can't get any better results on the devices i have.

Aaron,

Curious, did you get this solved by trying your videos on another piece of hardware?

Actually we replaced the DRD's with cheap ASUS chromeboxes and so far everything works as it should. Thanks to everyone for all the help.

That's great news!
