Planning to start an ad-supported display network. Has anyone else on this forum done that? What has been your experience?

Thanks...

Hi RB,

Since Rise vision's open sourced inception, I have been using the platform for various ad based networks that I have created over the years.

Ad based networks is perhaps the toughest sector to succeed in when it comes to digital signage, unless you either have deep pockets and patience.

Rise allows for a lot of creative uses of the platform. Especially when it comes to creating content based marketing for ad driven campaigns.

However the only feature I wish the RV team had developed is the reporting function for videos.

Outside of this one minor feature, the bigger challenges are with establishing an ad based network.

It requires the following:
Locations
A fair amount of capital Investment
Content Strategy
Technical know how
Reliable internet source (system will go down if signal is constantly lost)
Market Niche

If you have any experience in advertising based sales, then the above should be obvious.

However if this is all new to you, check the video below as it gives a good understanding as to what it takes to operate a successful network!

Best of luck!

I just stumbled across this.  Did you try your ad based network and how did it work?  We have some things going in 2 of the 4 larger markets in Michigan and it's not a business I'd get into on purpose.  Of all the things we do with signage, this is the least profitable and most frustrating.

Tony,

Due to the age of the post, I'm not sure if RB or David will respond, however you may want to check out our White Label Discussion here to see if there is anything useful in there.

Thanks!

It's fine.  I just saw the post and wanted to throw in my 2 cents and see if they had any success.  I think ad driven DOOH networks ended up being by and large being one of the largest business model let downs ever.  I think a handful of operators made it work, but even then, there are so many better models to run a successful digital signage business.
