Can I setup future presentations and set them to run in advance?

We use our signage to scroll daily activities and announcements - is there a way that I can set these up in advance to run day-by-day, or am I stuck setting up the presentations each morning? I just want a plan for when I am out of town, etc.

Amelia,

You can simply create your daily presentations, and schedule them to play in the scheduling portion of our platform. You can read our documentation on schedules here.

I've tried to do this - like have a tuesday presentation and a tuesday schedule, but I get a scheduling error when I try to save the new schedule because the display is already in use-even when I don't have that day selected. Does that make sense?

Amelia,

Yes, it completely makes sense. What you will want to do is create a master presentation with one large placeholder. In the placeholder, you will schedule your daily presentations to run.

I'm still confused though - I know how to make the presentation run in a large placeholder on a new presentation, but how would I schedule it? It pulls dates from a google spreadsheet too....

To schedule the embedded presentation, you'll click edit next to timeline, then weekly, and select which days you would like it to run.

I'm getting closer, but something still isn't set right and I can't figure it out. I have a master presentation - with 5 presentations embedded, one for each day of the week. See pic. However, when I preview it, it shows each presentation scrolling through - its NOT limiting what is showing to TUESDAY (today)'s schedule.

Amelia,

This looks right to me. Have you saved your changes and published the presentation?

I believe in Preview mode, you will see all of the presentations cycle through, however, when they run on their designated display(s), they will adhere to the defined schedule.  At least that is my experience and something that threw me for a loop when I was setting it up.  To me, preview should be previewing what lines up in the schedule for the current time, but it does not seem to work that way.

For example, I have one master presentation called "Events" that has a single placeholder with two embedded presentations in it that take up the entire placeholder in the master presentation.  Each of those embedded presentations is scheduled to run during the day and during the evening.  They have the same content (a scrolling events calendar), however, the background image is different - a day time background and a night time background, just to keep it more interesting.  Those embedded presentations are shown at the correct times when scheduled on the displays (i.e. one during the day and the other during the evening), however, if I preview the master presentation, it just cycles through both the day and evening presentations continuously with 10 seconds for each of them as that is the default time.  It's a bit quirky, but I learned that is how it behaves in preview mode.

I hope that makes sense.

FAC Signage - THANK YOU! I thought I was losing my mind but you are correct! Unfortunately for me, the signs I run are not located near my office so I hadn't thought to check one, but the VIEWER is different that the actual display - a good thing to know!

No problem Amelia, I struggled with this at first too.  I don't think there is any mention of this behavior elsewhere, at least not that I could find.

Something else I've done is to set up a spare computer/screen in my office that I can arbitrarily assign to any schedule so that I can see what is currently being displayed on the remote screens.

For when I'm not in the office, I wrote a script to periodically take screenshots on the players themselves (I'm using the standard Ubuntu config) and put them in Dropbox (I have installed Dropbox on each player).  Then with Dropbox on my iPhone, I can also see what is on each screen.  Screenshots are date/time stamped JPG filenames in separate folders for each player.  Another script saves the IP address for each player in Dropbox so I can easily find it and ssh into a player if needed for any reason.
