Better recurring time control

It's nice that there's automatic time-based controls for placeholders and content but it's extremely limited by only allowing a single day at a time for recurring events.

For example, my client has a birthday and hire anniversary placeholder that cycles through employees that have a birthday that month or a hire date anniversary.

Ideally I would make a placeholder for May, set it to "Yearly - May 1-31"

Currently if I select "Yearly" I can only select a single day. The date entry box will not accept ranges.

A way to easily handle it with the current UI is to add it to the "The N D of M" field. So instead of just being able to choose options like "The First Monday January" I could have additional options like "All - of January" or even "The First Week of January".

Or you could just make the "Every M D" day field accept a range so I could set "Every May 1-31"

Hi Chris,
Would using the Google Calendar Widget suit what you had in mind? This would involve integrating the widget with the existing designs that you have. The Widget also has an additional field to add a custom layout URL also.
Unfortunately not for several reasons. This is a corporate environment and exposing employee birthdays via a public calendar would be highly inappropriate. The widget would have to use a client ID for auth via the Calendar API.

The widget includes a photo for each birthday. I don't see a way to retrieve event attachments using the Calendar widget.

I have the birthday/anniversary placeholder showing the entire month's birthdays, passed and upcoming. If it weren't for the first two problems I'd be willing to rethink this one but currently it is how the display is expected to run and there is no way to recreate this behavior using the widget.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the clarification. It looks like we don’t currently have the option to access those ranges when editing the timeline settings. If anyone else would like to see this idea, please select the Vote button at the top of the page!

Similarly - We have annual times that we want to inform our clients about that will not change - Closing for holidays for example.  I would want something that could be set for a week or two before the holiday and then disappear immediately after.

As a specific example,  we would ideally have a 'We'll be closed for Thanksgiving' content that starts automatically on the Third Monday of Nov and expires on the Fourth Thursday of the month. If it is too difficult to do this based on the day of the month, then I'd fudge the dates if we could at least set a specific date span.

But we'd also do this for Christmas, New Year, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, etc.  Even a Don't forget to set your clocks for DST changes.

If possible, then we would invest the time to make in advance all the slides (appropriately themed to the holidays) then set and forget for those consistent, annual messages.

Currently, we make them when we realize that we've forgotten to get the message up!

BiologyBen,

I'm curious, can you not use what exists in the Timeline options already to achieve this?

Since Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day, etc, they are all on the same days, so they should be pretty easy to schedule.

Let me know if I am misunderstanding something. Thanks!

Sorry - It appears that my reply didn't stick.

Your example shows a message that will show on one just day - the 3rd Monday in November.  You are correct - that is easy.

But I don't need something just on the day of the holiday.  What I was referring to was a way to schedule something to display for a period of time (from the 3rd Mon to the 4th Thurs) with that entire period to reoccur annually (or monthly, etc)

Currently I can schedule a presentation to repeat daily between those start and end dates, but I cannot tell that sequence to repeat the following month or year.

Ahh..Thanks for that clarification! I'll ask our design team to take a look at this topic!

If others would like this same functionality, be sure to +1 this idea!
