Background For Text Gadget

I think/hope this would be a very simple and effective little addition to the text gadget.

Currently, we can set a background for a placeholder. But I think giving this functionality to the text gadget would extremely useful...well actually, I think it's necessary.

And in that regard...maybe it's worth even combining the text and image gadget together?

Interesting idea Alex.

If I am understanding you correctly, you mean you have several items in that Placeholder, and you want the text items to have individual backgrounds, correct?

You can always assign a static image as the background to the individual Placeholder, or you can use HTML to assign a background to each text item like this forum post illustrates, but I see your point about having the ability to add a simple background to the text item.

Is anyone else interested in this idea?

Thanks!

EXACTLY!
The forum post is what I'm looking for. Essentially making it a bit simpler for new clients.

Thanks!

Just checking back on this one :)

I'm surprised that there isn't many others that have +1'd this, I've literally gotten raised eyebrows from MANY clients when they find out that they can only have text with white backgrounds. (Or all text has to follow the placeholders' background)

I know they can change it the HTML way, but I'll be honest, for the typical user that's a bit too far out of their spectrum!

Maybe this new comment will resurface this post for others to throw in their input!

I have a client that tried adding CSS into their presentation to put an image in the background, and text over it.

The image shows up in the the editor, but gets stripped out in the preview or published presentation.

I'll email the presentation, but maybe someone can help explain why this method won't work?

I still think that this could be one of the simplest and easiest little additions to this software. The ability to do this could save clients hours of time from having to keep re-creating recurring messages...when all they have to do is change a date in the text.

Thanks!

Hey Alex,

Did you try out the Text Widget? You can add background colours with it quite easily.

Let us know if that works for you.

Honestly, this is the first time I've opened the widget. I'm so used to using the text item, I've glossed over it the whole time.

Yes, that's a big step to be able to change the background. Now, adding an image would be huge. Lots of clients want to create a template background, but just change the text.
Examples:
Birthday background, text for person changes
Product special, pricing changes
Recurring meeting/event, change text for venue

I could write a long list - but you get the idea. Recurring messages often require minor tweaks.
Thanks for the heads up!
