I set up Youtube videos on multiple displays. They have been working for a few days and now all of a sudden yesterday and today there is sound but no video. It's just a black screen. Any idea why that might happen?

Hi Aimee,
Are these Displays currently running on the same network? And has there been recent changes to the network that the Displays are connected to?

Thanks,

Hannah

Aimee,

Just to clarify, you are referring to the recommendation in this forum post, correct? Are you downloading these videos and storing them in Rise Storage to play them?

If you are using the YouTube links, can you try using the YouTube Widget and see if that corrects the issue for you?

I look forward to hearing back!

If your using YouTube in the video item or widget, you will start having issues with audio and video. YouTube videos has an issue with changing volume And video on a rotation. The video item and widget changes volume on rotation. On start its set to your preference and at the end it's set to 0. Then back to your preference when it starts and so on. YouTube videos can't handle that change so you loose audio. This happened to us on our YouTube widget. We have since fixed the issue but if your going to use the video item or widget it will continue to happen till YouTube fixes it. The video part has to do with the setup of the widget. The widget uses jwplayer which works but it doesn't serve YouTube that well. Also the video item and widget are not made for YouTube purposes. They are made for videos that are stored on rise or on third party servers that use the actual file. You really need to use something that handles YouTube correctly or you will have issues.

I do store the Youtube videos on my Rise Storage. Then I use the the video widget and use the url.

So, basically it's the fact that I'm using Youtube videos? Our client gives me Youtube videos all the time to display. So, is there anything different I can do to make these work without all the issues?

No, I mean the device (player) model. It is good to know OS too, which in your case is Windows7. Unfortunately, I do not have W7 machines available for testing to me now, but I will run a test on W10 machine (an pretty weak) today. Maybe it is RV App problem I am not aware off.

Could you give me the links to these videos on YouTube, so I could use exactly the same videos for testing.

Also is there anything else in these presentations beside the videos. Have you tried playing only videos in that presentation?

This is major confusion. Videos downloaded off YT aren't YT videos anymore. Those are just like any other videos hosted by you. I work the same way, but never experienced anything like that. Could this be the problem on the hardware level?

YouTube videos downloaded still has been encoded by YouTube. When you upload videos to YouTube they do conversions where it's optimal by YouTube and there players. When you download them your getting that optimization that YouTube made when it's uploaded. Some videos do fine while others not so much. It all depends on the conversion YouTube did on the video. That's why you need to either re-encode or convert to a different encoding if a video is having an issue. It might not be hardware at all it could be the video itself because of what YouTube did to the video.

Actually ClipGrab transcode the videos when you download them. You can even choose from a number of different formats and one of the options is to leave original format.

Cool didn't know that. I will check that out. They might try webm format. Could be an issue with MP4 and chrome. Rise recommends that on there widget so it could be something with just MP4 that's causing the issue. If that format does the same then I would update the video driver on the pc to see if a change in driver would fix any hardware acceration issue that might be happening.

Hi Aimee,
I have added a test Display on Win 7 and the latest version of Rise Player on to a test Schedule called YouTube Videos Only Rise Vision Test in your account. The schedule has YouTube Safety 1-4 and I was able to view the videos and hear the audio. At some point there is black screen with audio in the background which is the case with one of the presentations (YouTube Safety 4).

I would recommend building a new Schedule using the new Schedules app only and then testing it out one video at a time. I recommend only sticking to the new Schedules app and not using the old version of the Schedules app. Also please check if the original video and presentation for YouTube Safety 4 is meant to have the black screen only also.

Thanks!

Hannah

Heavy guns showed up! )))

Aimee, I must say I am using a different approach from yours to schedule things in my presentations. I am rotating/changing/scheduling videos within the same presentation and most likely within the same placeholder. In other words, I am scheduling Placeholder's Playlist Items. I pretty much never use multiple presentations withing the same schedule. The main reason for this is the transition options for playlist items, but I also I noticed it is more stable this way and for video playbacks in particular.
