ASUS Chrome Box not running Rise Player properly after shutting display off or rebooting

We have an ASUS Chrome Box running ChromeOS running a presentation through an HDMI port. The problem is, every time the computer reboots, whether automatically or manually, the rise player is loaded but none of the content can be loaded or updated until a manual sign-in occurs and the display ID is re-entered. This also happens when the monitor displaying the information is shut off or unplugged This is very inconvenient because it would be difficult to constantly have to sign-in and enter the display ID every time a reboot happens or the monitor is shut off.

We have Asus too, but we never encountered anything like that. Are you running your player in 'kiosk' mode? Have you tried wiping the player and reinstalling RV again? Is it managed Chrome device or no?

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for posting that question.  I have the same questions that Darius posted above.

The player is running in kiosk mode and we have reset it and reinstalled twice. But, it is a managed device and we believe that may have something to do with it.

We also have managed Asus Chromeboxes, but none of them are acting this way. Maybe some settings in the console were not set quite right? I would guess...

Darius, would you mind screenshotting your admin console settings or listing them so we can see what should be set?

I think the main problem we are having now has to do with a web filter our facility uses called LSFilter. I believe it is blocking the app from updating the info on our presentation until we manually sign-in every time. Edit: rvashow.appspot.com is blocked under the filter until we sign in manually.

Matthew,

You'll need to add that exception to your firewall/proxy in order for Rise Player to operate as anticipated.

Ok, Thanks! I'm not an administrator so I'm not sure how long the process will take for the admin to add it to the exception list, but hopefully it works after it is added.

We have added exceptions to the firewall, but I believe the issue is when the display is off overnight and we turn it back on in the morning, we go to edit the presentation and update it to the player, that's when we have to sign back in and re-enter the display ID. It seems that it is losing the settings for the display when the display is offline for a long period of time. We tried duplicating it for a shorter period of time and it comes back on just fine. It's the overnight shutoff that is our issue.

Hi Curt,

Can you please take a look at this thread and let me know if it helps. https://community.risevision.com/rise_vision_inc/topics/chromebox-not-keeping-display-id

Thank you,
Shea

Is there anyway to have Chrome auto sign-in? If it were able to auto sign-in we wouldn't have to manually sign-in every time it reboots (purposefully and mysteriously). That would fix the issue completely.

Matthew,

What you are looking for is Kiosk mode. In Kiosk Mode, a device only boots to one set Kiosk Application. If your devices are managed, you can view the instructions on setting up Rise Vision as a kiosk app here. If your devices are not managed, some of our users utilize a mode called "Non-Managed Kiosk Mode". I'm not an expert at that, and I'm certainly not qualified to give instructions on it, as it's a bit "hacky" and we have seen a lot of problems arise from this setting in the past.

Your best bet would be to start a new thread asking for information from the community on non-managed kiosk mode if that's the route you would like to go.

The device is managed and is in kiosk mode but still not behaving properly. We are not sure what settings we are missing because we have followed your official instructions at least 3 times and we still have the same problem.

Matthew,

My apologies!

Could you please login to admin.google.com and check that these two settings are exactly as they appear in this picture?

We passed these settings on to the facility admin and they were set properly but then we were denied access to the chrome device with a message saying we were not an "authorized user" at the login screen.
