Hello,

I found this issue few weeks ago happening in 1 display but now it happens more and more.

Let me explain:
I've lot of display for my client and i send to desktop as link the "start rise vision" exe. So (imo) whenever a new player update is released the link seems broken. The classic error message "Windows cannot find------------.Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again." pop up and the icon is like the classic blank page icon

I've not setup the startup process cos sometimes the player starts before windows connect to wifi so Rise stops with an error.

Any fix or tips?

Thx a lot

Alberto, I do not get it. You are saying clients are starting RV manually?...

If that is the case, and I say this of the top of my head, try using Windows Task Scheduler (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa383614(v=vs.85).aspx) to start Rise Vision App some time AFTER the player reboot. Foe example, if reboot occurs at 3:00AM, then set RV App to start at 3:05AM.

Alberto, does that happens on Windows 10 devices? I often use manual RV start on my test devices and sometimes on deployed devices after remote maintenance. I must say I never noticed that problem. But I also do not use desktop shortcut. The way I go about this is that all the players I have in Tablet mode and have Apps pinned to desktop. They work every time. Also, sometimes i simply start typing Rise Vision in search box and it comes up immediately. Also, it is easy (with 2 clicks) to reach from the programs list (in tablet mode) and it worked for me 100%

Ok, you right, I was not clear...

The main problem is this:

PREMISE:
  • Clients start player manually.
  • OS is windows 7
  • On their desktop i had create a link of the .exe "Start Rise Vision Player"
ISSUE:
  • Sometimes (i think whenever Rise's player updates) the icon breaks, as the original file change name or location (you know that windows' error message)

Alberto, Got it! Like I said, try task scheduler to force the RV app start after player already booted up. Also, you could try making shortcut not to the app itself, but the location folder of the app, or try starting the app through Start button.

p.s. I do not really like Windows 7 for digital signage because there is always something like this happening. Windows 10 seems to work better.

Typically the startup path is updated correctly when there is an update to the Player. Could you create a shortcut to the startup folder instead...

Alberto,

Another thing I want to confirm, are you using the latest Player that you can download from here? I'm wondering if you are using a very old version of the Player, and perhaps that is a factor here.

Also, the link on the desktop should point to here: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\rvplayer\2017.XX.XX.XX.XX\Installer\scripts\background.jse start.bat --unattended, not an exe. The XX's will update with the appropriate path to the bat file on every Player update.

Let us know how you make out!

I get this point perfectly cos I did "find this in folder", so when I saw those numbers i thought immediately about the version.

Btw,
I get this "error" everytime a new update is released, so i'm turning on the Auto Startup on every display..

I don't think there is any different solution.

That's strange Alberto, as I am not able to recreate that error. I wonder if there is something from a past installation that is causing this issue, perhaps a manually created shortcut or something like that.

You may want to try totally removing Rise Vision Player, removing the rvplayer folder, all shortcut links in startup, desktop, etc, rebooting, and then installation the latest version. Let us know how you make out!

Just to close this thread...
I still don't know how to fix this "link problem", so the only way is workaround it. I set up to all my clients' player the autostart option.

Thx to all ppl who helped.
