In looking at implementing a Proof of Play component to the software, We came across a situation where the total views were not distinguished between displays (ie, it showed the total value for how many times the content played).
So the question is: is it necessary to have results based on an individual display? Also, are there any other thoughts regarding what features a Proof of Play system should have?

Hi Neal I'm really interested in this topic since last week one of my clients asked for this feature.
I think having it for each display, not location, is important. Especially if they are playing different content on different loops.
Other then manual proof of play is there any other form of calculating POP on Risevision? -

I am also interested in this topic. Potential advertisers will need to justify that their ads are showing correctly to justify their investment.
I think the more functionality, the better. Show the ad name, which displays that it played on, how many times, what time, how long, and any other data that can be included. Numbers sell :)
That's my 2 cents, I agree with David. Thanks for opening this up Neal. Is this functionality being planned for yet, or is it still in the idea stages? -

I’m
looking to collaborate
Hi David, Alex, first off my apologies for not staying on top of this topic here in the forum.
Here's my two cents on proof of play and ad management in general. I really don't want to do it ourselves. I would rather we take 1 or more 3rd party systems that were built specifically for ad management, and possibly ad aggregation, and work to incorporate those systems into ours. Which given the open nature of ours I think it should be fairly easy to do.
We originally went looking for a candidate system for this project but we failed to find anything that would be acceptable so we parked it for now.
I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on this and if you have any candidate systems in mind?
Thanks! -
-
Byron, I agree. There's no need to reinvent the wheel. There should be plenty of resources to draw from. That being said, I'm not sure where the best resources are. I haven't spent too much time in the online ad-realm. However, I will keep an eye out for them now to see what I can learn.
Are there parts of the Rise Classic that can be contributed? Or would it be best to start fresh looking at other web tools? -
-
Unfortunately proof of play in Rise Classic (RDN) has been really problematic and not something that I would like to propagate. Ideally we find a third party who just focuses on this area and we incorporate. Would appreciate hearing about anything you come across! Thanks

Hi Guys,
I know its a bit late here on the east coast, but I actually did some research on my own and I found a solution that is perfect for all networks.
First off I would like to introduce the RV Forum to Rvue listing services.
www.rvue.com
They are a sort of online listing service for Digital Signage Networks.
They even help draw advertisers to your network to purchase space.
For the last few months I've been conversing with Maria D'chello about their product and service.
They are really helpful bunch of people (on the same level as the RV staff here) and they just went through a major overhaul of their system that included some interesting new features.
One of them was a new Analytics feature or a free Proof of Play system!!!!
The software is none intrusive and provides all the features Alex mentioned.
Its a very simple process...They provide you with the software link that is available in HTTPS links and Flash based files.
The software shows a black screen for 1 second and through some magic determines how often your content is played.
I will be testing it on my network in a few days, so I will get back to you guys with my opinion on how it works.
Cheers,
Dave -

I’m
looking forward to this!
David, if you need any help at all with integration, whatever, let me know and we will do whatever we can. Thank you! -

Hmm.. I saw a nice system @ DSE that could be incorporated into a Risevision powered display. It monitors movement on the LCD you are displaying on via the HDMI port.
If i am correct, what it did was run the signal from the media player (hdmi) thru this box and then to the LCD. Through HDMI it was able to report whether or not the screen was playing and many other features...(by this time i had tuned out since the first feature was all i was looking for :P )
I will try and find the company while i'm digging through all the materials from the show.
Re: Proof of Play, i would like to see an export file in excel showing file name, date, cycle, duration. -

Phil,
I saw the same thing, if I recall correctly the technology was called "OneTouch" by Philips displays, and was built into all their screens. Very cool stuff. -
-
any updates on whether David's solution was effective with Rise or not?
-
-
David,
If you're still out there, we'd love to hear how you made out! -

My understanding at this time is that the only way for us to have real proof that our players/monitors are functioning is to use a web cam at every location, and then hire someone to monitor those cams throughout the day.
This seems a bit like using a sledgehammer to fix a cavity, but if that's the only way to do it, maybe that's what we'll have to do.
Let me know if you have any other ideas.- view 2 more comments

Kirt Yanke Is the contact with NEC who knows most about their software for monitoring their screens. It's called NaviSet, and works well if you're looking at your own network, but right now it doesn't work over the wider internet if you simply want to give it an ip address to see your screen. He's very willing to work with Rise to get Rise and NEC to play nicely. Sounds like it's not that difficult to do.

HTurtle- that is true- I'm told it's very possible to monitor through RS232 or LAN cable IF you have the software telling it to do that.
