I think a duration setting on Videos would be a good things.
I have a presentation that has three zones, and the items in all three zones need to change at exactly the same time every 30 seconds. If I use Flash or YouTube gadgets, I can specify the time; Videos won't let me do this.
Does anyone else see value in having a duration setting?

The ability to spell control would be a good quality for me to have :-)

Anyone else think this is a good idea? Hit the +1 if you do!

Robb, I deleted a bunch of emails recently. Where is the one for "hit 1" for this topic?

Never mind - I saw the hit 1 above.
The main reason this would be handy is that I have a presentation that has three placeholders for a video, contact info, and services a company has. The three placeholders need to play for 30 seconds and then transition to the next client's ad. I have to convert all videos to swf, since the swf gadget is the only one that lets me specify duration. Not the end of the world but one extra step to have to do for each video. The wierd thing is that I have a couple of youtube videos that I converted to swf and they are the more problematic play list items. The other swf files are converted slideshow videos from Final Cut Pro. All were converted to the same bitrate etc. swf file. -

In the original post, there is a square with a +1 within it. You aren't seeing it since you were the original poster. I believe, however, you should be seeing 2 people like this idea in that general area though.

I can understand that.
Based on that example though, you would want to make sure that not only does the video play for a specified time, but also that it doesn't resume from when it stopped before going on to the next item (if I am understanding the scenario correctly).
I can't explain why the YouTube sourced videos would be more problematic than the others after converting. What software was used to convert the YouTube videos? -
-
They seem to always start back at the beginning.
I used a program called "Cleaner" - Autodesk was the last to purchase it. There are several oddities to the youtube conversions to swf. They won't resize and display if I make the placeholder smaller than the video; the others that were conversions of slideshows from Final CUt Pro will resize and play.
I had to shrink the placeholder due to the original computer getting hit by lightning and the stop gap machine being a laptop with lower max resolution. We are about to replace with another PC so that should go away.
I converted the youtubes because of the buffering issues. -

I was just referring to this idea with having the videos restart instead of carrying on. It would be good info to have if this idea goes through (just in case).
I'm not familiar with Cleaner, so I don't have any insight to offer that may help with the resizing.
I agree the buffering issues from YouTube are a pain. Unfortunately, it is an issue on their side that we don't have control over. -
